B & D Auto Sales Owner: Jeff Barris Buyer Beware - Owner has LESS THAN ZERO scruples! Burlington New Jersey

  Trying to make this a short, yet descriptive story is not easy.  In a nutshell though, I purchased a 2nd vehicle in as many weeks from this person and within days was having issues with it.  Wasn't any warranty involved, no lemon-law applied here.  Just a man's word that he would "take care of you because you're an obviously good customer".  Typical Used Car Salesman unfortunately.  Sad part, Consumer Affairs doesn't help, Better Business Bureau doesn't help.  All you can do, is get the word out about this crook and hope that it does some good.

  I purchased a used Pontiac Torrent on August 24, 2013 and because the bank would not finance the extended warranty cost, shook the owner's hand that he would honor his sale and fix any issues that arose within a reasonable 30 day timeframe that I would get if the car was less than 7 years old (it was a 2006).  Within 3 days of purchase, I was seeing condensation come from my AC.  Literally snowing in August within my car.  It was nothing he said.  His mechanic backed him up.  Then he supposedly tried to appease me by sending me to his mechanic which happened to be an Auto Body Repair Shop.  First two visits, didn't even lift the hood.  Normal humidity he said.  My own mechanic (a true certified mechanic), indicated that he thought it was a radiator fluid leak somewhere in the heater core that was hitting the evapator coil.  Not once even considered my mechanic's assessment of a $1500 repair.

  Over the course of the next 3 months, Air Cabin Filter replacement, Thermostat, Oil Change, something else to do with the AC running too cold.  His supposed mechanic even marked the control knob and told me not to set it below this temperature.  I put up with 5 visits to this unqualified repairman.  The sixth visit was to GM who is servicing Pontiacs since they're out of business, who advised there was a recall outstanding with the HVAC system.  But that referenced Heat loss and nothing to do with Heater Cores, or leaks onto Evaporator Coils or Temperature gauges indicating an overheat ever since his mechanic first actually touched something on this engine.  Didn't take long, November 19th (almost 3 months after purchase) that the engine blew.  Yes, cracked head gasket (the cars and mine). 

  But wait, this Used Car Salesman is a Prince amongst thieves!  He's going to pay for half of the head gasket and go back to the drawing board on the original problem because he wants me to be satisfied.  So he's basically offering that I take another $1100 out of my pocket and I can then go get the recall work done and continue trying to figure out that there's a leak of radiadtor fluid somewhere in that engine.  Sorry...I could not accept that.

  Today, a mediator in court encouraged me to walk away because there's a contract.  An AS-IS purchase agreement.  Can't prove a thing as to a word being given.  All the e-mails, repair visits and common sense be damned.  I'm stuck with a loan on a car that I don't have.  This man just goes back to doing what he does...RIPPING OFF UNSUSPECTING CONSUMERS.  How could anyone make money that way and sleep at night?
