We received a mailer from "Carribean Cruise Line administrative offices" containing 2 "boarding passes" and a "$1300 voucher". Included was a 1-800 # to call to claim our "free cruise" The fine print on the voucher said, "this is an offer to sell travel and all recipients are entitled to the free round-trip Bahamas Celebration Cruise with meals and entertainment included to and from the Bahamas with no purchase necessary. Port charges and permanent taxes of $59pp is due at time of registration."
My wife called the number and the pushy sales rep, after getting our anniversary date, our kids' ages and the like, told her that $200 (not $118) paid for the base pkg. that included only one airfare but that for $935, we could upgrade to 2 airfares plus get a 4-night stay in Vegas - but in order to get all this, we had to complete the transaction over the phone right then. He said, once we purchased it, the package was non-refundable, we had 18 months to use it, and that we would get copies of "voice-signature verification" reciepts that would be made available to us and kept on file with our credit card compnay.
I've listened to enough Clark Howard broadcasts for this to set off all kinds of alarm bells so we told him it sounded fishy and he immediately directed us to the Better Business Bureau website with step-by-step navigation instructions on how to view their "A" rating with no complaints.
After my wife followed his instructions to their BBB rating, I immediately looked up "Bahamas Celebration Cruise" on RipOff Report, saw the same "$200" bait & switch tactic described by other reviewers, and the ordeal described by those unlucky enough to part with their money, then thanked the representative for his time and hung up.
Maybe it's a fine deal for what you get - I don't know ; I've never been on a cruise - but I'm not willing to succumb to the pressure to part with a non-refundable $200 to $935 payment on my credit card on the spot to find out.
