In July of 2013 BG&E came to my home and installed a smart metet. My very next bill was almost double my ordinary use for that time frame, I have 3 years of reports to back that up Via my bills. I sent a complaint to the Maryland Public Service commission and had the meter removed. Now before I get into what followed let me educate my felow Marylanders, Our legacy meters have not needed for anyone to physically come to our homes in over 10 years so bg&e has not had to send anyone to our homes and that service charge is nothing but extortion.

I refused to pay that inflated bill while I waited for the PCS to address the complaint. I also sent the PCS copies of all my previous bills. Bge never responded nor did the PCS, then in February 2014 I get a bill with no gas charges, I also had been paying all my bills on time. so I paid what I was billed, then in March 2014 I get a bill for over $1000 , the only explication I got was it was for 88 days of gas charges, and the only month in which I was not charged for was the month of February 2014 which is only 28 days, to this day BGE has not provided a reasonable explination.

Instead it appears that the PCS worked in cohoots with BGE to concoct a complete fabrication of the facts. I.e. they said the smart meter was not removed until February 2014 hence the non gas charges, and that the meter was tested in my presence in September 2013. And upheld every thing bge said.saying the burden of proof is on the customer. Now how can we monitor what bge is billing us for when they are doing it remotely?  And how can they just ignore the billing history when the summers of 2012 and 2011 were 2 of the hottest summers in the history of the state.

I have had a programmable thermostat for over ten years and it has consistently lowered my bill. Our only recourse is to stick together as consumers and raise awareness of how the PCS is working in concert with the public utility company in order to gauge the public, hoping we'll just go away.
