Banctek Telesales
1215 Delaware St
Denver, CO 80204 (Use back door of gray building).
I was hired here during one of their open interview sessions. After I had been hired, it was revealed that the pay was only $9 an hour, plus commision. However, in their ad, it said $15 an hour OR MORE, not AT MOST. During each 8 hour shift, the average employee made 4 sales, at$$5 bonus per sale. Not only will you definatley not make $15 an hour or more, $15 isn't even the average earnings per hour, $11.50 is. The top selling representative makes $15.75 an hour on average.
When I was hired, I was offered a steady position with oppurtunities for advancement. I was not told that I was in a competetive training group, that I was on trial for the position, or that I would be reviewed after one week with possibility for termination. I was told to do my best, and I was never informed of any sort of sales quota I had to meet in order to retain my position.
During training, I was directly taught and encouraged to "scam" customers. They told me how they offer the best rates, but to tack on every fee imaginable. They told me that if a customer ever mistakenly thinks he owes more money than he does, to find a fee to add to the bill in order to rack up the charge to the mistaken amount. When we got calls from customers complaining about unfair business practices or billing, we are instructed to redirect them to other representatives, to make it look we are trying to help, and never connect to a manager.
If someone continually calls back to complain, we are supposed to hang up the phone. When someone calls to close their account with the company, I was instructed to go through the motions of deleting their account and tell the customer everything was resolved, while never entering any inofrmation into the computer, so they could bill them the next month.
I wanted to quit, but I had already accepted the job based on false promises and had missed al my other job interviews. I just moved to Denver with my family and desperatley needed to secure employment in order to pay rent. I successfully completed a week's worth of work, comprised of 3 days training and two days on the feild. I made 3 dales on those two days, more than 70percent of the rest of the people in my training group. I left work friday, and was told I was doing great and they would see me monday.
They didn't call over the weekend, but had me come in monday morning as if I was going to be working. As soon as I bgot there, they told me to wait in a small room. They came back to tell me I was fired, for not meeting the sales quota of 3 a day (a quota I hadn't been informed of.) I tried to prossionally fight for myself, sayng I was new on the job without experience in the feild, but always excelled in every job once I got started. He then told me it was nothing personal: this is the way they hire everbody. They have a hiring fair once a week, hire 25 people, and only keep 1 or 2 employed after a week's time.
If this is their normal practice, they should be required to tell employees. They never told me it was competetive with everyone in my class, they said we were all higher. I didn't know I had to meet a quota. I thought I has stable employment, was always on time and proffesional, and worked very hard. This company cost me a week of valuable time in the search for a stable job, several interviews, and $6 dollars for every hour I worked that I was lied to about the pay through their ad. Customers are being lied to and billed exorbitantly and falsely. If you have any dignity, and value your time, do not work here. Customers considering using Banctek, don't if you value your money.
