I received an automated phone call from (800) 620-1366 asking me to verify personal information due to possible fraudulent charges on my military banking card.  I dialed bogus zip code and social security info and ended up speaking to a representative.

The man on the phone asked me again to verify my check card info, social security info, and my zip code.  The man tried to get me to give him the info by telling me that my card had been used fraudulently (I told him I hadn't been using that card, to which he said, that's why we are calling)! I refused and asked for a phone number to verify this information and he gave me the above number and told me to tell them I was being contacted by visa fraud prevention.

I looked up the actual customer service number for bank of america and spoke to someone who assured me they would not contact me in this manner and that it is most likely an attempt to gain access to my information.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

It's a scam. Same thing happened to me

AUTHOR: Frank Frank - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 25, 2010

I received a call to my work cell phone telling me that my check card had been compromised and that I needed to call an 800 number in order to verify my identity.

Knowing it was fake, I called the number anyway out of curiosity and received a standard "please leave a message" automated voicemail.  I went ahead and filed a report with the FCC (as this sort of behavior is highly illegal) and they did mail me a copy of my complaint just in case I ever need it.  Of course, nothing was wrong with any of my credit cards.

It's the equivalent of a phishing scam over the phone.  Just ignore it and move on.  If your phone has caller ID, I would be willing to bet the call came from outside the USA.
