Bank of America on Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station has levied overdraft charges on as little as 1.50. Have direct deposit weekly. Have pleaded for overdraft privilidges as I have direct deposit weekly and it went on deaf ears. All my bills have fallen behind, cannot buy food as a consequence of these miserable charges. Please help me.

A bank will assess overdraft fees if you overdraft by as little as $0.01. This is all computer driven so there is no leway in this. It does not matter if you have direct deposit or not. If you spend the money before the direct deposit comes in, you are going to continue to overdraft.

If you want something like "overdraft protection". That is usually tied to another source such as a Credit Card, Line of Credit, or Savings Account. They won't just give you overdraft protection because you have Direct Deposit.
