Bar Careers Attempted to charge me to take a test Hackensack Internet

I was searching the internet for a bartending job and found a company called Bar Careers. They listed a phone number with extension for a city in NJ. It was Sunday so I made a note and continued my search. I then noticed they had several postings with several extensions for several cities in NJ. I wrote down all the ones close to my area and called on Monday.

When I finally reached a representative they asked if I had any experience. I said yes, 3 years experience. They told me that they have to verify my experience. In order to verify my experience they have me take a test. This test will verify my knowledge of the laws and regulations for serving alcohol. The enrollment cost for this test is "only" $98.90, and if they do not place me in a position within 30 days I will receive a complete refund. What a load of BS...

First of all, I immediately said I wasn't interested. Secondly, PLEASE, nobody fall for this scam. Companies that charge you for services or equipment in order for you to work for them are called SCAMS!! I'm surprised it was such a high dollar amount for the test...usually these scams involve smaller amounts, less than $25.00, that people are more willing to part with to try a different job. Especially when a refund is promised! For god sakes, just keep sending out your resume...somebody will hire you!

I cannot say for sure that Bar Careers will not be able to place people into jobs. They may very well have some contacts, but they may be looking in the same places as everyone else (craigslist, monster, careerbuilder, etc.) There is no way to know. And without getting some guarantee in writing it would be foolish to pay them anything. If they want your money, be sure to get a guarantee!!!
