Working at Barona is akin to working in a cult. There are mandatory ceremonies one must go through for advancement. The "magic" ceremonies being the most obvious.  One must learn the language and customs of the organzation. Deviating from Barona's party line can result in termination if one speaks out too loudly.

Barona is a horrible place to work because most managers (who are not part of the Barona tribe) take advantage of the fact that the casino resides on sovereign land. Because of the tribe's compact with the state of California, suing the casino is incredibly difficult, if not impossible.  Even Federal laws are hard to enforce.  As such the following happens with alarming regularity:

HR regularly covers up the verbal, sexual and work place harassment that occurs by supervisors, managers and directors...all levels of management in many departments treat their employees like crap.

The following stories are true:

One employee worked 48 straight hours, and received 8 hours of comp time.  Long hours, ridiculous schedules and unfair or nonexistent comp time is the norm.  That same employee was later fired less than a month later

Employees who don't along with supervisors and manager are often times fired, not because the employee lacks skill but because those supervisors and managers have an in with someone. Sometimes the management actually works to create credible cover stories. Other times, the employees are given the 'at will employment' speech and terminated

A hostile work environment claim went uninvestigated for months by HR and the department the employee worked in. Shortly thereafter, the employee was terminated.

In an other department is regular practice for the management to use racial and gay slurs to employees

Illegal and unethical handling of customer information was met with hostility by management, even though the customers were put at great risk for identity theft and fraud

One supervisor, whom is full time, was able to arrange a part-time work schedule, while going to school full-time.  On average she spent 25 hours a week at Barona while at school and while supervising a team.  Her availability was a huge issue when her employees needed her, but she was backed by management allowed her to continue going to school as things slipped through the cracks.  And when things slipped through the cracks because she was not there to do her job, it was her employees who got in trouble
