Our fridge started having a big knocking noise.

We called Bay Area Appliance Sales, Inc. to get the problem diagnosed and get it fixed. They say they charge $49 to come out and diagnose the problem and if the customer decides to get it fixed, it would be included in the price.

The service person who showed up was sloppy.
First he did not take of the filter line and instead bent the back cover where it is not supposed to be bent. Then when he saw he could not get to the problem he finally still had to disconnect the filter line. (and then later when he connected the line back it become leaky)

He diagnosed that the knocking noise is due to the fan motor gone bad and needed to be replaced.

He called his boss and they determined that the price of the fan motor will be $189 and they will charge $13 for labor, and I had to pay $99 up front.

Then

It was suspicious that a fan motor would be so expensive, so I have looked it up in Sears parts direct:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/LG-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-LSC26905TT/3204/0165000/50031613/00006?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

I have also called them back to verify which part they want to order exactly, but they would not give me a straight ansver.

It tuns out that the Fan motor cost only $30.23
That is a 6 times overcharge of the supposedly needed part.

I called them back and told them that I don't want the part and after some arguments they returned the $50 upfront charge for the part but not the $49.

Then I called another company for a second opinion. They looked at it, figured out that there was nothing wrong with the motor, however, one of the fan blades cracked and that was making the noise. They applied some super glue and the problem was fixed 30 seconds later without needing any parts replaced at all. (The fridge have worked ever since) If we choose to replace the fan instead of fixing it, the cost of the fan would have been around $3.

I then called Bay Area Appliance Sales, Inc. back for a refund, due to the fact that they have completely mis-diagnosed the problem and tried to rip us off.

They flatly refused and hang up in mid sentence.

Avoid Bay Area Appliance Sales, Inc. at all costs !!!

- They will inflate the problem to gain profit.
- They will grossly overcharge the needed part.
- They are incompetent and will do more damage then help.
- When you ask for a refund due to all the above they will refuse and hang up on you.
