Baycare Homecare Charges Individuals and Insurance Companies Enormous Fees Clearwater Florida

In July 2014, we received a nebulizer from our doctor's office.  This was an alternative to borrowing the device from them anytime our son started to wheeze.  We were told this would be covered by our insurance and retailed at $39.95.  

In November 2014, we we received an invoice from Baycare Homecare.  They provide the equipment to our doctor's office and they bill our insurance.  The invoice was a total of $82.77 (initial fee of $23.93 and monthly rental charges of $14.71).  I called them immediately to determine what these charges were for.  I explained to the billing representative, Mark, that we did not agree to rent the equipment, we agreed to purchase outright.  He insisted that our insurance would only cover this as a "rent to own" situation.  I advised that we did not agree to this, and if we had been invoiced promptly instead of four months later, we could have immediately returned the equipment and purchased it ourselves.  

Throughout the call, he was extremely rude, unprofessional, and unhelpful.  He told me that they have the right to charge up to $226 for the "rental" of the equipment over one year - again this device retails at $39.95!  The $226 is only what they are charging me and does not include what they are charging my insurance company.  

This company is charging outrageous fees without advising the customers beforehand of the costs and refuses to work with the customer to correct the error.  I am having the equipment picked up immediately and I will refuse to ever work with this company in any capacity again.
