Purchase breeding/show b***h from this party. After almost 2 years had her first heat cycle. This indicates some problems from my research.
Dog failed to conceive when bred to outside male. On third heat bred to male here, produced a litter of 4. This dog was not show quality and though shown 8 times failed to receive a point in the show ring even with professional handlers on the lead. She battled a weight problem from 10 months on. Her breeder was informed of this on multiple occassions.
After litter was born we found out both this bitches sire and dam failed important genetic testing. We were never informed in the previous three years since purchase of said b***h.
This b***h had a weight problem that is a clear indicator that thyroid is involved. Her dam failed her thyroid test and was on medication all her life. Her sire had an eye problem that was never reported.
We have sought small claims action against this party for damages in this case as it was a clear fault that this breeder did not inform buyers of these dogs offspring of genetic problems that would have affected them being used as breeding dogs.
We have had contact with other individuals that have purchased genetically unhealthy or actual unhealthy dogs from this breeder. We encourage them to post their issues here.

Belmark Purchase
AUTHOR: BiBlueLover - (Canada)
SUBMITTED: Monday, August 24, 2015
I just wanted to say that when purchasing a Sheltie, there are many things that you need to research before you buy. That goes with any breed/breeder out there. I am not defending Belmark by any means. I know a few people that have purchase Belmark dogs/puppies and one of these purchases was good and one was....not so good.
I also know of a few breeding disappointments from breeders that have gone to Belmark and either had a disappointing litter or had no litter at all.
Breeding Shelties takes a lot of time and research. If you do not take the time to do your research, you are better off not purchasing any breed of dog. And if you knew that both parents were not tested....why would you try and breed this girl in the first place? Rules I go by before breeding:
1. Research the parents and the parent's parents. (Health issues)
2. Research the Breeder. (What are they producing)
3. Ask questions and get it in writing if you decide to purchase or breed to one of their dogs.
4. If all possible, meet the puppy's parents. If you are not able to do this, ask for copies of all health testing (TgAA, VWD, CERF, Hips) on both parents. If they do not give them to you or say "You can trust me".....Don't do the deal...this should be a huge red flag.
5. Get references of other puppy purchaser or breeders that have used their males. Again, if you do not get these, don't do the deal....Red Flag.
There are many ways to protect yourself from getting riped off....but if you do not do your research and get copies and references, you are putting yourself right in the middle of a possible mess you might not be able to get yourself out of.

My experience with Bella Thompson and Belmark Shelties
AUTHOR: Susan S. - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, July 01, 2008
I do not have knowledge of this incident but I do have first hand knowledge of Bella and Belmark
Shelties. I have purchased two dogs from Bella (a puppy male and an adult male) and both are healthy specimens of the breed. The puppy I bought for show went oversized. These things happen with shelties. We neutered him and he is a much loved member of our family.
The other dog is an adult Bella bought back because the woman did not want him any longer. We got him in November and he is physically, medically and structurally sound. He just turned 6-years-old and we are expecting our first litter with him in a little over 3 weeks.
I found Bella to be direct and up front with any and all questions I asked. There was no deception and I'm sure that if we could no longer keep either of these dogs, Bella would help place them and would take them back if necessary.
I have been involved in this breeding game for over 34 years and it is unfortunate when things like this happen. Don't forget that most dogs are bred around 2 years and they may test fine until they reach an older age. By that time they have already produced many litters. If something shows up in a dog past breeding age, how can you say that the breeder was not being responsible when the dog past all the tests when it was of breeding age? True it needs to be noted but I dare say by that time there is not much that can be done. It is simply too late.
To be sure there are horrible breeders out there.
Bella Thompson and Belmark Shelties is a superb place to buy a puppy or dog and I look forward to purchasing future shelties from there.

I have dealed with Bella Thompson
AUTHOR: Sam - (Chile)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, July 01, 2008
I am very surprised with this information. I have known Bella Thompson, as I have purchased two wonderful Shelty pupies from her.
All was made by telephone, and after messages and phone conversations, I found nothing else but a nice, responsible person, and as I see it from 10.000 miles away, one of , or the best shelty breeder in the world.
She has always been responsive to inquieries, she maintains a "Post selling" service and care that is just surprising.
I understand that accidents may ocurr, and not all dogs grow to be what we spect from them, or they appear they will be when maturing occurs. I am a breeder, and has taken me 20 years to have a real Champion - and both dogs that Bella sent me, have achieved this condition.
In my case, here from Chile in South America we have nothing but a great opinion of Bella as a person, and as Breeder -
Tks

Recommendation for Bella Thompson and Belmark Shelties
AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

I am not familiar with this particular report or incident. I just know from personal experience that Bella Thompson is a wonderful person and Belmark Kennels is fantastic Kennel. I have known Bella for several years and have 3 beautiful, healthy dogs from Belmark. I highly recommend Bella as an ethical and honest breeder. In all my dealings with Bella, she has been upfront and honest.
I have been in Shelties for over 20 years and have dealt with many breeders. None have been as ethical and easy to deal with. I have a fantastic sheltie that is headed towards a versitility title. She is only a year old, is pointed, trained in agility and quite a herding dog. She has it all, and a dynamite personality. She has been healthy since day one, and so are her parents, and grandparents. I was so very pleased with the one I have now, I now have two more beautiful Belmark babies. They all have the best personalities, and easy to train and live with.
I have also had the pleasure of in person meeting quite a few of her dogs, they are all gorgeous, healthy, with great temperments. I would highly recommend this Kennel for either a show dog, or a companion, or performance dog. I feel very fortunate to have found this Breeder and this kennel. I suggest if you are interested in a good quality sheltie, contact Bella and see how great her dogs are for yourself. I know they are great, and I am proud to own three.

Further info:
1) b**ch was paid for to $330. Not stolen as implied. Plus 40 hours website work at $20/hour.
2) B**ch did NOT pass all her testing as some were not completed.
3) B**ch is spayed in pet home.
4) Two offspring are in my kennel and are getting their testing done and passed. The other two are in pet homes. They were all sold at PET price to the various homes. All owners of these dogs were informed that their dogs parentage was suspect.
5) The champion male has not been used at stud by me.
6) This is now before the courts.
7) This breeder SOLD a collie that had bloat and a stapled stomach to a friend of mine that WAS GIVEN to her and told NEVER TO BE bred. She was given the dog to SHOW only. She sold this dog to my friend and never refunded her money or crate when the dog was returned to her. This is also outstanding since 1999.
Note: There are at least 20 others with sick and ill dogs that are coming forward from this kennel.
Reports include SSS, eye defects, thyroid, hips and cancer. You name it.

Here is the truth

I was shocked to see this report. Let me respond.
To set a few things straight for those out there.
1)The dog that we are talking about here was born September 14th 1999. Yes, folks she is 7 years old.
2)The person filling this report Bonnie Saul has not yet paid for said dog. Yes, she ripped me off.
3)The sire and dam passed all testing that I knew of at the time of sale of the puppy. The sire has an eye injury which is documented. The dam now of old age has low thyroid. This was reported to me by Bonnie Saul now years after she had bought the dog. I have no first hand knowledge of this as I sold the dam of the puppy years ago. And no folks, she was not on medication all her life.
4) The dog that Bonnnie Saul purchased from me and in essence stole and has not paid for. Has passed all her testing.
5) for those of you wondering what she did with the puppies. They were placed in show homes for good money. The two that she has left, One is a Champion that she uses at stud and the other has a litter on the ground.
6)I have tried as the co-owner of this dog to take her back to place in a good home and Bonnie Saul has refused to let her go and she is hoping to continue breeding her.
7)Watch out for this CKC breeder. Bonnie Saul of Islewind shelties in Ontario Canada. She is the REAL RIP OFF!

Frankly, there are ENOUGH puppies in the world!

Perhaps this was meant to be a warning to you: not all dogs need to be shown or bred.
Is she a happy dog? Does she provide you joy? That's what a dog's job is, NOT to make YOU money.
Get her neutered and enjoy her companionship, or give her to someone who will enjoy her.

So Where Are You Really From?
AUTHOR: S.n. - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Monday, September 18, 2006
Ontario or Afghanistan? First of all, shouldn't you have known all about this PRIOR to breeding any dog you purchased? Did you ask about genetic testing prior to purchase? Did you follow up by checking on the lineage of the dog you purchased? Chances are you did not. So, tell us what you did with the FOUR puppies you claim are not show quality. Did you sell them as show quality, did you "cull" them or did you dump them?
