This report is about Benjamin Russell, sales representative for EXCEL Alarms. He knocked on my door one day and said that he was going to update my alarm system for FREE. I had an ADT system, that I was pretty happy with, but he convinced me and my husband that it was necessary for us to update it. We said that we had it for little over a year and our contract was for 60 months. But he insisted that he was with the company that made the parts so that we needed to update our system immediately and that he would take care of our previous contract and that we would still be paying the same monthly rate, so we did. So long story short, a month later we saw that we were still getting billed from ADT and now ALSO EXCEL alarms. It was too late to cancel either one without a penalty fee. The monthly rate billed from EXCEL was also $15 more a month than BENJAMIN RUSSELL said it would be. SO now, we are stuck paying either both bills or one very BIG cancellation fee.
Benjamin Russell is a short, receeding blonde hairline, blue eyed, and most-likely con artist MORMON from Utah, just like all the other kids that knocked on our doors in the past. He claimed to be an honest mormon. Nothing against Mormons, just this one.
So WATCH OUT for this scammer. His shirt he wears is white and says EXCEL ALARMS

About this report.. I know for a fact that excel alarms would work with this customer to take care of any problems they have... I think its unfair to name them on this report.. They provide a great service to the community by updating security systems to their customers. Yes, sometimes someone may be unhappy with a salesperson but thats not an excuse to put down a great local company whom has a great standing with the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU! In conclusion, please realize this is an isolated incident.. There are Hundreds of satisfied customers out there!

It's obvious that you have a guilty conscious to look your name up on rip off report. ADT corporate does not have the five year contract, but ADT authorized dealers could before 2008. So maybe you should do your research better. Obviously, I didn't have my paperwork with me when I posted the first ad, but if you look at the title, it says "XCEL". Nothing against XCEL as a company, but maybe they should be more thorough in their sales people and not hire bullshitters. Lying to make money is not very honest. If you take so much pride in ripping people off, then maybe you shouldn't be mormon, you're only putting a bad name on your religion and your job. Nothing against mormons, but I find consistancy with complaints on the internet. The rate I was told and was listed was not what I actually had to pay. And also, WHY are you apologizing if you said that I couldn't possibly be a customer? That just proves your guilt. SO...Who is the pathalogical liar? I always thought the customer was always right. Unless you want to pay my money that was stolen from me back, I do not want to talk to you.
For those of you out there that have an alarm system, make sure you're out of contract before you sign over with another company.... and if someone knocks on your door...make sure you verify with the company what the agreement is, not the sales person. Also, make sure it's not Benjamin Russell. REMEMBER Con Artists are ALWAYS the easiest to like.

#2 Consumer Comment
The original report is a hoax!!

Hello!
I don't normally do this, but I really wanted to comment! Being an actual ADT customer I thought I should just make a quick comment on this! With the ever changing market for alarms and competitive rates you usually only sign a 24 month contract. On occasion you sign a 3yr contract, but never longer than that! Who knows what the market will be like in 3 yrs, let alone the 5yrs that this person supposedly signed up for! 60 month contracts don't exist, so the person who filed the report must have done so out of malice. I don't know about you, but if I had a wife noticing that the salesman was shorter, with blond hair, blue eyes, and a receding hairline I would be more worried about her than the alarm system. That said, the original posted report was obviously a fake.
Thanks for your time!

A little bit of Truth, amidst Lies

To start out in this rebuttal, the only correct statements in this report are my name and surprisingly enough my Religion. I take great pride and happiness in the job I perform and the service I provide for customers and protecting their families.
As for the first falsehood in this slanderous statement: EXCEL alarms, does not exist. The company is XCEL Alarm. I would think that a customer that would have paperwork to get an alarm system would know that as it is printed all over it as well as on their yard sign in their lawn.
Secondly: ADT is a very good company. I have done work for them in the past, at times when an ADT customer is unhappy with their company for some reason and out of their monitoring agreement I will update their alarm system and give them new service. Two things of importance to this claim: ADT as a company does not do 60 month contracts, you may contact ADT to validate that. The second is that I went through my database and found I installed only two ADT clients in the past 6 months. Both are happy customers and have no complaints. Which leads me to wonder where this "SO CALLED ADT" costumer came from.
Third: The monitoring rate is listed on the agreement, if I wanted to lie about it I couldn't. I have no control over the rate, I couldn't change it if I wanted to. I am not the one who decides what we charge monthly for monitoring service, the amount you pay is on your agreement and is also verified on a phone call before I leave the house.
Fourth: I am 5'10'', if this is short I apologize. I think I am rather normal sized, I do have blond hair, I sure hope its not receding. My wife says NO but that is probably a biased opinion. I do have Blue eyes as well, as far as the rest; well that is Fifth.
Fifth: I can't believe, seriously, can't even fathom why in the world anyone would bring up religion into something like this. I know all types of people from all different types of religions, some not so great, some exceptional. Some of my best friends are from different religions. I find it RUDE, IGNORANT, FOUL, and showing that YOU...THE POSTER...has absolutely NO sense whatsoever. I apologize if this comes off strong, but I hold people who are biased against a certain religion in the same category as racists. I hope you take that advice into account for the rest of your life before you end up making a big mistake in person with someone with less self-control as me. We live in America, you have a right to be whatever religion you want.
In summary: If this is a post from an actual customer, I sincerely do apologize! You obviously have my phone number, you posted it on this site. After the comments you made I want you as a customer as little as you obviously want to deal with me. Call me, I will make sure to remedy this fact. If I could only locate any customer in my past years in sales that fit your description I would have already contacted you and canceled your account for you. I take pride in my work, I take pride in my customers, and if you are in fact a customer; I have no pride in having you. Either call me or post your account number, I will cancel your account, with no charge to you!
I hope this clears my name in some degree, I find it wrong and very bad business that ripoff report will not remove claims if they cannot be proved valid. As this is my only option to protect what is left of my good name, I hope it does something. Xcel Alarm is a good company, ADT is a good company, people selling alarms are good people, don't let a random false post from an anonymous person stop you from helping someone make their living. The alarm salesman knocking on your door is trying to support his family just like you are, he is offering a good deal otherwise he wouldn't be able to make any money! Consider him next time, at least for a minute. You will make his day and if you do buy an alarm from him save a lot of money on an alarm system.
I do hope that I get a response to this, I am curious to see what a pathological liar might be able to come up with.
Sincerely,
Benjamin Russell, door-to-door salesman, and L.D.S.
