I got a sweet deal from Benson for a new car. I could bust their usual dealer tactics, though I had to visit them 5 times before I could reach a deal. I walked away twice saying this won't work out and then followed up and got it done.

When the deal was agreed, I was relieved and happy - but when I met their "Finance Manager" to conclude financing, man..that was some experience. "Mgr" was all in a hurry to close the shop and wanted me to sign on the "forms" immediately for 6.25% APR. When I asked why I can't get a better deal, I was shown a "credit report" with my FICA rating as 620 or something. I was surprised. I had queried my credit union and they promised the can come up to 3.99 and if possible upto 3.25% and as per my bank my FICA rating is 750!!

I told the "Finance Manager" I can't sign this, cos I got a better deal and its for 3.99. That worked wonders..."forms" in hand were junked and new form with 3.99 APR was printed immediately but here is the caveat..I got get their "warranty plan" that costs me 2500$.

I said I can't do it immediately but I was insisted that I sign the forms; Once I give them a go ahead they go and file with the bank..that was the agreement.

But once I signed, I knew I made a mistake..when my credit union wanted Invoice copy..."Finance Manager" faxed it multiple times but bank "never" received it. After playing all kinds of nonsense game, I got sick of her (finance manager) and eventually when I went their shop to say go ahead, I got a copy of my invoice.

My overall experience was good. But Finance Manager is a lie. If u think u are talking to a "manager", you are done. She will rip you off. She will look into your eyes and lie to your face. If you get her red handed, she will change the story / rules instantly (like, I knew that I have 4 months to cancel the financing option, and to go for another one, if I don't like it, but when I asked her, she said "only after 4 months" you are allowed to drop this plan and to switch to something else!! - basically setting up a trap)

Any deal - any dealer - believe your instincts and realize that their salary comes from your pocket.

Goodluck.

Why didn't you get your financing thru your credit union?

AUTHOR: MovingForward - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 09, 2010

I agree that the finance dept in any dealership is a big rip off. You had your financing lined up already with your credit union at 3.99 APR, why in the world wouldn't you just use that loan?

If you go in with your $$ lined up with a third party (the credit union) then you don't have to get hit with all the hidden charges the F&I guy/gal try to stuff in the loan. These hidden charges include: warranty plans, gap insurance, etching, car alarms etc.

NEVER sign a contract that you don't understand. NEVER sign a contract that has any term or condition with which you don't agree. If you don't want the warranty, get it removed from your deal and get a refund of the unused warranty period. Use an attorney if you can't get them to refund your warranty money. Report them to the Attorney General.

Could This Be A Scam????

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

This sure sounds like the 'Our bank requires an extended warranty in order to get this financing' scam. A quick way to cut this off is to insist that the contract clearly show that the bank required the purchase of an extended warranty to secure financing. Watch them do a backpedal after you push this. Never fall for this scam.

Also, I'd cancel the extended warranty immediately. If they refuse you can threaten to file a complaint about them to the bank. Did you know you can purchase a genuine Honda extended warranty on the net from several real Honda dealers around the country at about 40-50% less than your dealer offered. Very legal and your dealer will hate it. Guaranteed.

Typically the F&I person at the dealership is the key person they count on to generate profit. Not through the price of the car but rather the add-on services and warranties. These are where the profit margins become obscene. Paint sealers, fabric protectors, road hazard, you name it they can invent it. If they're offered just take a pass on them all. Your wallet will thank you.
