We moved into a town home in this apartment complex about a year & a half ago. Immediately there were problems. The outlet that the alarm system was plugged into was open. There was no receptacle cover. This was when we moved in (March 2002). It was recently covered when my 3 year old nephew bumped into it & it sparked & tripped the circuit breaker.
Back in May of this year, we called management about a mold problem in the dining room. Every time it rained hard enough, the carpet got wet. Wed call, they would come days later (after it dried). Well of course, mold developed. The mold was so bad, that we lost a dining room chair & our babys high chair. There was also mold on the ceiling in my bedroom & in my babys room.
Eventually, our child & I started getting sick with cold-like symptoms. Its like we forever have a cold. Weve called about the mold. Several times, someone would come out, look at it, say theyll be back & never come back. On the night of June 21 it rained. We were in our bedroom, watching TV when I felt a drop of water. There was a leak in the ceiling. We called that night, the maintenance guy came out & said that they had to call the roofer. I slept on the couch that night.
On July 16, while at work, my husband & I kept trying to call our answering machine to get our messages. The line was busy. When I got home, I found that the reason why the phone was busy was that the ceiling (where the leak was) fell in & the pieces knocked the phone off the hook. I called maintenance again. The man came in, saw the hole & said that the roofer would be out the next day. I slept on the couch that night.
On July 17, the roofer came out & fixed the roof. My husband asked him to cover the hole. He used what looks like a piece a cardboard to cover the hole & said that maintenance should be here to fix the ceiling. They never came. Today is September 22. The mold is still in the carpet and on the ceiling. The cardboard is still on my ceiling, & my child & I are still fighting a cold.
Needless to say, weve decided to break our lease and move out this week.
