I was reading the other reports about this agency and I recalled my experience with them in 2000. I also filled out their online form (lure) describing my disappointment with the job scene. Here is an excerpt of my email to friends about the experience:

I dressed up for the Haldane interview but it turned out to be a cheesy leech agency. I waited 30 minutes filling out a simple form/application (that is geared towards getting you to think that your interview/resume/etc needs work). I talked to the receptionist for a while and I noticed a guy walk out and then back in. The receptionist apologized and said that the guy was busy with someone else and had been running late because of a late interview after lunch. Yeah right. I could hear another guy in one of the offices with a lady so I assumed I was waiting for him. Yeah right. The original guy I had seen walk out and back in finally came and escorted me back to his office. Gee, where
was the interviewee before me?

I got to the interview and this guy is selling me on his inside contacts. After playing the game for a while and sounding each other out, I finally got the sales pitch/negative response. It was like, "hey kid come back when ya' got some cash for me." One positive part of this experience. The hour cost me less than it did him. But then again, I am sure he was quite comfortable sitting in his suit in that fancy nice glass building looking out towards the other buildings and the court yard. Remember: used car salesmen wear suits, too. All that glitters isn't gold -- but it sure must be nice.

So, as you can see, reading these other complaints about Bernard Haldane are like deja vu all over again for me.

LEGITIMATE Employment Agencies Charge the Hiring Employer, NOT the employee..

AUTHOR: Sherri - ()

POSTED: Sunday, December 01, 2002

and NEVER would a legitimate employment agency ask for money up front. Some of the things I see in the various reports are red-flags. When they start asking about age and marital status, which are two questions that cannot legally be asked on a job interview. Asking the "interviewee" to bring his/her spouse to the "interview", also another red flag, as it is a cardinal sin to bring someone with you to a legitimate job interview.

There are a few executive search agencies who do charge the employee AFTER he is hired and only if they cannot negotiate that their fees be paid by the hiring company. Getting money up front gives recruiters no incentive to actually find a job for the person. Legitimate agencies usually charge 25-33% of their client's annual starting salary with the recruiter getting 50% of that, so stick with legit companies.
