Buying computers straight from the manufacturer cannot be stressed enough. As manufacturer's include ORIGINAL recovery discs not disk image copies or bootleg of recovery discs. In addition these authentic recovery discs sold by manufacturers can be counted on for reformatting and reinstalling. Why? Because they can actually be read.
You see when a program is cloned through disc imaging and morphed. It is not an original program with files just a mirage. Same goes for the bootleg recovery discs that third parties ( not manufacturer's) create while removing the original manufacturers.
A laptop Toshiba purchased through BestBuy, had all these trademarkings. The Windows mail program would not work because I was informed I had to enter a 25 digit registration key. When I informed BB they said that was odd, they never heard of it and I was dismissed. Well obviously a reg. key code has to be entered to validate a program so... again programs were pre-installed using whatever cloning software they use to set up people's comps backstage.
The computer had issues from 3 months into purchase. Seemed odd for a brand new comp. an IT friend of mine took a look at the laptop and informed me two screws were missing and the vista seal registration key numbers was ripped in half which was an indication that the computer which was sold to me as brand new had been opened prior. Unregistered version of vista with remote access already configured (webcam).
So much for privacy. Remote access was configured on presets for file transfer. Administrative accounts were compromised and controlled remotely. System administrative accounts were denied.
My IT friend went into BIOS mode and there was a termination date present on hardware settings to shut down my computer on a specific date. Coincidentally, during the time HSBC (6month interest free scam) was in dispute by me thanks to posts on rip off report. I attempted to pay the last month and I was told my payment was never received oddly as all other bills were paid fine via regular mail.
Of course the check was never acknowledged and I was hit with a late fee but before the scam could go any further into the deferred interest category I read about on here I canceled the account and payed in full via wire from my bank and that was acknowledged. However during the course of all of this drama with the banks my laptop was set to terminate die right before my last payment and that is sabotage.
Originally I had my eye on another laptop HP. However, informed they were out of those and the TOSHIBA they had available was better. I fell for it. Not realizing that comps can be refurbished and sold to unassuming individuals who become victims of the corruption of corporate business.
Businesses are concerned with generating cash at any expense and by any means necessary to the detriment of others. All it does is continue the perpetual cycle of spending on account of victims which is just what the BESTBUY doctor ordered.
Besides buying items with shady 6 month deferred interest, which is why they pushed me to sign up for their card and not my American Express. It is all part of the plan. So I am stuck with a piece of uses Toshiba computer in need of a new hard drive. I have since purchased another computer from a reputable manufacturer.
I will never buy from BESTBUY again and hence closed all accounts. Never try and get a comp repaired there either that will only escalate into no repair or more issues. How can one trust their comps with individuals who do not really care about honest service and satisfactory business dealings.
There were way too many people on that line at BESTBUY cop repairs complaining about brand new computers going batty and needing repairs. Sounds like a refurbished mess, I rather loudly made that allegation on line at the store and got the most dirty looks imaginable. People need to know the truth, this is an evil repayment for the trusting consumer.
Best buy is nothing short of a bunch of bootlegging, manufacturer meddling, original disc removing, shady sociopathic parasitical opportunistic infections.
Computers should never have pre termination dates, cloned software and files, recovery discs that are bootleg and unreadable. The final result is a con and scam. Out $1800.00. plus the cost of a new comp and repairs on the old one.

Most Computers no longer come with recovery disks

Sounds like there were problems at Toshiba. You didn't get a refurbished machine. You got a defective one. And like my title says most computer these days do not come with recovery disks. They have a recovery drive and you have to burn the disks yourself.
And if there was a back door into the webcam that was placed by a customer or employee. Was this an open box computer?
Either way sounds like the issue was with Toshiba sicne it sounds like you got a defective machine.
Though I do remember an issue with Vista in early versions having an issue with bad keys and having an ending date so you may have gotten on of those. Once again not Best Buy's fault, that would be Microsoft's. Sorry I don't know all the details.

Best Buy gets thier laptops straight from the manufacterer sealed in the box.
they dont have the time to illegally remove the OS and bootleg it and them repackage it with the manufacterers tape

So, you purchased a laptop from Best Buy. Here's the problem. First, I have never heard of a "termination date" on a computer. Second, I haven't purchased a computer in more than 5 years that actually came with a discovery disc, and all of those were purchased directly from the manufacturer.
We are to believe, here, that you purchased a laptop from Best Buy on some sort of 6 month interest-free financing option. Best Buy cloned the software that is supposed to come with your computer and put some sort of restriction on it so that it self-destructs when that six months runs out?
Manufacturers routinely do not ship computers with recovery discs anymore. The main reason is piracy. Additionally, technology now makes it possible to create a "boot disk" out of a USB thumb drive. You simply don't need a recovery disc anymore. Most, if not all, computers do come with backup discs of installed software. Most of these will have restrictions so that they can only be installed on a specific model of computer (understandably so).
