Best Buy salesman lied to me. I have since heard rumors that lying is required behavior for Best Buy salespeople - in my opinion, the rumors have at least some basis in fact, (just my opinion). I bought my (very expensive)Toshiba satellite laptop from Best Buy, only because I was assured that all warranty work would be done, in the Apple Valley store, by Geek Squad technicians. Because Geek Squad (back then) had a fine reputation, I questioned the salesman about the warranty work. He told me "absolutely", and said I'd just need to deliver the laptop to the Geek Squad area, in the store and it would be taken care of there, whether in warranty or out of warranty.

Now the sad part of the story: Within about 9 months, the motherboard blew out. As directed, I took the laptop to Geek Squad in the Apple Valley store. They checked it in & said it would be ready in about a week. 10 days later I called to check on progress. Apparently then I spoke with an "untrained liar", because when he came back to the phone, after looking for my laptop, he said, "It looks like your laptop is still out in California and it'll probably be a couple more weeks before it's repaired."

What? What was it doing in California?, I asked. I was then notified that Geek Squad does NOT do warranty work for Best Buy, that all warranty work gets sent to Best Buy in California - and repairs are not done by Geek Squad employees, they are done by Best Buy people! This wasn't part of the deal I signed on for, but there was nothing I could do, at that point - my laptop was lying in pieces somewhere in California and no guess as to when it would ever be repaired and returned.

It's good that I'm strong and firm and assertive (my very feminine appearance belies this, which helps), because I was able to get a name and phone number for some BB employee in California. I called and made it clear that my computer HAD to be repaired immediately & also HAD to be shipped back to Minnesota within 2 days, as I use it in my business and could not continue to wait. I added that I'd be reporting them to the Minnesota Attorney General and to my local Better Business Bureau, if they didn't perform.

I will not now purchase even a CD from Best Buy! Beware people, they offer low prices, but you'll pay, in the long run, if you trust this company.

Hey, Best Buy Lied To Me A Number Of Times

My report on Best Buy Deptford, NJ will be posted soon and you note numerous Lies. In brief, I purchased a computer, they said they would not get to it to upgrade it for at min. 45 minutes as others were ahead of me. I returned within minutes to tell them I needed the money for my Fathers funeral expenses as pointed out to me by my wife and they say that the computer is opened I need to pay a restocking fee. I argued with this, they didn't like it, so they didn't bother to refund the price of the computer minus the restocking fee, they ended up charging me the entire price of the computer even though I left the store without it. They lied and said their inventory checks out and there was no computer missing. Wait until you read this story; these guys are sick!

I was looking for a laptop I could afford and called Best Buy aksing about their prices..I was told they had a sale going on laptops from $399 and up...since I only had $650 to spend I was thrilled..I immediately said thank you then rushed over..Imagine my surprise when I got there and found not one laptop priced below $699..when I questioned an employee he said "I have no idea who told you that or why, but none of our sale prices on laptops are below $699" I turned to my Partner and said I do he was hoping we would come in not see one for the price we were hoping for and buy one for a higher price..I then said he lied to us to get us in the store..the employee cleared his throat then said "excuse me please I'll be right back" he disappeared and we never saw him again..we left went to Circuit City and found not only a fair price on a laptop, but we also got internet hook up and all for only $550..Best Buy You lost a customer!

1. All work on computers is done by GEEK SQUAD agents either in the store, in your home or at a place called Geek Squad City - located in Louisville, KY area. It may possibly be sent to the manufacturer but that is rare. There isn't to my knowledge a place in Cali that does repairs unless maybe it is a separate Geek Squad City location, using only Geek Squad employees (the guys in the white shirt/black tie).

2. No one would ever tell you that your motherboard replacement would only take 1 week! It takes that long just for shipping! Average turn time is 2-4 weeks, and a motherboard replacement is probably the most time consuming and costly repair to any computer. The specific part has to be ordered from Toshiba so that could take at least a week to just be shipped to the repair center by Toshiba.

3. If you had purchased the laptop from any other company, you would be responsible for shipping the computer and probably would not be reimbursed for those fees (including insurance) - if you don't pack the laptop well enough, it will probably be destroyed by USPS. Geek Squad takes that responsibility - Toshiba is to blame for a faulty motherboard, by the way.

4. Repairs are done on a first come/first served basis. Almost every customer wants their computer fixed RIGHT NOW! but that's not always possible - we send them out and the agents in Louisville receive them, put them into a queue based on when they arrived. Threatening legal action will get you nowhere. You signed the paperwork when you dropped off your laptop at the store, read the fine print. I know it sucks that it's taking so long but guess what? They are fixing it for FREE, they are just waiting on Toshiba for the parts, if it takes 2 weeks to get in, what can they do? Would you suggest threatening legal action against Toshiba??
