I made a major purchase on 08/30/03 under the assumption that I would be receiving gift certificates based off a certain percentage of the purchase. I was supposed to receive $140 in certificates, but have yet to receive them. They say you will receive them in 6-8 weeks. I have made about 10 calls to their "customer service" and all they tell is they are in the mail and wait until next week. I have also sent several emails, to which I get the same response.

I noticed that the original poster posted a follow-up to his/her report that noted they were able to get their 'certificates' over-nighted to them after emailing the VP of Best Buy.
Being a victim of this myself, how about sharing the wealth in the form of the contact information for this individual or department?

Best Buy Reward Zone's are the real thing... I guarantee that!

Best Buy Reward Zone's are the real thing, just ask any cashier at Best Buy and you will be shown customer rewards that were used that day.
A good time to come in and see the rewards used would be during the evening (during the morning is obviously a bad time because the store just may not have had any customers come in yet using Best Buy Reward Zone's).
I have worked as a cashier at the OP Best Buy in Kansas, the RZ's are REAL. I can tell you what probably went wrong with your particular incident. Upon initial activation of the Best Buy Reward Zone Card, cashiers are suppose to scan the RZ card FIRST. The RZ card MUST be the FIRST item on the transaction for following items to be credited. [(This applies to INITIAL activation of the card only, after that transaction, later transactions do not require the RZ card to be scanned first)].
Unfortunately, the cashier may have neglected to scan the RZ card as the first item on your purchase. For people unfamiliar with the card... it costs $10 to start and offers a $5 back for every $125 purchase you make at BB, the $5 comes as a BB reward zone certificate from the mail to use at BB. The reward zone's you earn DO NOT come back to you as a percentage from what you buy. The RZ's come back as $5 for every accumalative $125 spent.
People who somehow forget to mention that they currently have a BB RZ card (we do a phone lookup to get you RZ credit for the transaction) or didn't bring the card and don't get credit for a transaction can call the number (so I've been told by a customer and other employees) on the back of the card which will refer you online to attain a password which you will need to call the RZ ph# again. You then enter the password and enter the transaction number so you will get credit for a recent purchase you made at Best Buy.
If you had the cashier scan your card for RZ credit the receipt always shows an accumalating RZ points balance and will restart the balance each time you exceed the $125 mark for your $5 RZ certificates.
I must say that working as a cashier using the registars... well there were times when it sucked. I personally hate the software used on those registars. Overall the registars work good, but if you type incorrectly the date of birth on a new check as '50/03/75' instead of '05/03/75' the registar locks up! I believe that's what you call a logic error in programming where the programmer messed up.
Also, the incident concerning Reward Zone's is extremely small but has happened, software needs to be upgraded to be user friendly so the cashier doesn't have to sweat the day making sure every key that is entered, is entered correctly or else it may be irreversible. -In this case, the RZ card that in my point of view shouldn't have to be entered first upon activation but it must be for it to work. (transaction void will solve the problem, but it is pain to have to ask a supervisor if the transaction already got processed).
There are problems in systems everywhere -not just BB that need to be worked out so customers have a better experience, but companies can only do so much during any given time. It takes time and money to upgrade features and other areas of the business may require more support. No one is perfect, hopefully you understand that.
Remember that for recent purchases, you can still get RZ credit by calling the number on the back of the card.

Hi. I am a frequent Best Buy shopper. Unfortunately, I have had a similar experience, although I haven't been a Rewards Zone member for as long as this person has been. So far, I have accrued enough points for about 3-4 certificates, and have yet to receive any of them. I did check out the Rewards Zone website, and it says
"Due to the tremendous success of the Reward Zone program, we've run into a backlog in our certificate fulfillment process."
I would think some advance marketing research would have told them how popular the program would be, and that they could have avoided this backlog.
It's also a bit of a disappointment that rewards points do not instantly show up on the website (or at the bottom of your receipt when you buy things)...it takes 10 days for them to be "accessible". It does seem like it will be a worthwhile program, once they get the kinks worked out of it.
