I signed up for Acu-Shield's debt settlement program back in 2006 because I was misled that they are a viable alternative to bankruptcy. I wanted to be honest and try to pay my debts.
I was told the first few payments would be for their fees. Once that was done, my payments would go into an account and used to settle my debts.
This is wrong. Do not fall for their scam!
First, in addition to making you pay a huge fee up front, they take additional fees with every payment (that don't go into your account).
I was told they were going to begin negotiations with a particular creditor.
They didn't. They didn't even try. I was served court papers and sued by the original creditor.
When I tried to get an answer, I was told they "didn't know why my negotiator didn't contact the creditor" and that "they would look into it."
Of course, they didn't do that either. Now I have to declare bankruptcy.
When I withdrew from the program and requested a refund of my money, they refused to give it to me for 60 days. So basically they held onto my money for two months, fully aware that THEY caused me more problems than I already had.
Please, before you fall for their, or any other so-called 'Debt Negotiators' or 'Debt Settlement' programs, go immediately to Consumer Credit Counseling but whatever you do, STAY AWAY FROM ACU-SHIELD FINANCIAL!
To any attorney who may read this: Please consider a class-action lawsuit against them. They practice this questionable business by preying on financially desperate people who are vulnerable for a "light at the end of the tunnel."

I am looking into a class action lawsuit or other possible actions. This company did the same thing to me. They have since closed up shop and reopened under another company call fresh start America. I do not want to let them off so lightly I have contacted the bbb and the Atterony general. If you can contact me (((email redacted)))
