I have been with Best Merchant Rates for several years. I was sold on the fact that they are "transparent" don't charge anything more than a flat fee. This is NOT true. Be very wary of using them! You get hit with extra fees for one thing after another, minimum monthly fees, statement fees (even if you don't get one)

For over a year I have requested an address change for my statements and have been unsuccessful. One of the greatest ploys they use is they use First Data Security software to run the cards on a virtual terminal. If you have any problem, they always say it was First Data's problem not theirs, or perhaps you "thought" you were talking to us but contacted First Data. However First Data won't even talk to you about Best Merchant Rates.

I finally cancelled my service as of the end of October 2011. I received my October bank statement and they charged be $189.95 for a PCI annual compliance fee. Supposedly I received an email about it (as if you don't receive hundreds of emails a day). I asked for a refund based on a prorated amount (that seemed reasonable) and they said it was not their policy and it was impossible to refund me anything since my account is closed. They apparently can't even write a refund check... You have no recourse that they know it!

They I received another $59.99 charge on my November statement. I was sure this charge would be refunded since their email stated, "Starting November 1, 2011, there will be a monthly compliance fee charged..." My records clearly show that I cancelled my account on October 31st. This time they said was that although this was misleading, they meant to say that they would be billing for October in November.

Bottomline, these guys can and will charge extra fees and you can't do anything. Even the bank can't help you. Stay away from them!

This matter has been resolved with this merchant. We issued a check to the merchant and cleared up any misunderstanding. 

 

To be more clear about how our transparent pricing works:

We take the wholesale network cost directly from Visa/Mastercard and pass that on.

This is called Interchange pricing. It's the most fair pricing structure in the industry. 

These Interchange rates directly from Visa/Mastercard are "set in stone" rates that any business owner would have to pay Visa/Mastercard. Now the business owners just need to find who has the lowest mark up. That would be BestMerchantRates. We don't have any cancellation fee or contract and were voted #1 Credit Card Processor by FindtheBest.com in 2013. 

In comparison to the credit card processors:

Most other processors put businesses on a tiered structure. Where debit cards are one rate, qualified cards are another, and non-qualified cards are an even higher rate. The unfortunate thing about this way of processing is that the processing bank chooses wchich of those tiers your transaction falls into. Ultimately charging the higher rate more often than not. Not only is this unclear and unfair, they lock you into a 2 year agreement with a cancellation fee to get out of it. 

I fully stand behind BestMerchantRates with integrity as a company willing to go the extra mile for a cheaper cost.
