     In December, I attended a sales meeting at the Direct buy club in Pittsburgh. It was purported that the clubs could provide cheaper building materials and supplies for our family company that rehabilitates old dilapidated homes. The cost of the membership was around $5,000.00. After signing up, I financed a portion of the membership price through the club, which apparently was assigned to the Beta Finance Corporation of Crown Point, Indiana. I was told the interest rate would be 9%. After receiving the first billing, I noticed that there were two separate finance charges charged each month, totaling almost 18%. I called Beta Finance and they advised that I had been misinformed about the interest rate and tha they actually carged 17.75%. I immediately paid off the full amount, including the acrused interest.

   My second issue with the club was though there was a great sales pitch, there is no discount. Each and every one of their products ordere through the club carry additional costs both by the club and shipping costs, which actually makes the products more expensive than wat was purported earlier. As an example, in our sales pitch meeting, we were advised that we could purchase 40 gallon hot water tanks for 249.00. The first time I went personally to the club, the nice lady gave me a paper for a local plumbing contractor who said the minimum price for gas hot water heaters was $ 350.00, which was even more than Lowes, home Depot and all of the box stores.

   I would strongly recommend that you truly look at what this club is offering and those 'hidden costs' that they never tell you about. I have now a 3 year gold membership that will probably never get used, and out over $ 5,000.00.
