Wow, where do I begin!!!

I was 19 when I bought my first house, or so I thought. Little did I know these jerks that call themselves board members lied out there a*s. I paid $33,000 to essentially rent a screwed up appartment. Yeah, what the f! I was told by these five babiling idiots that I would recieve the deed to my townhouse in a few months when the morguage was paid off. My family had lived in this co-op since before I was born and it was to everyones understanding that this would occur.

Well, when the time came to hand our stock cirtificates in (worth one dollar mind you, and there not recorded downtown) and obtain our ownership (something they preached we had all along) we were slaped in the face.

The exact words from these lying, cheating, decieving, decreped old farts was,"so sue us". And that's were
the fun really began. Because they evil demons shreded important documents and have refused to let the public view any unshedded documents our case is in limbo. These evil crooks to this day tell the seniors around here that they currently own there homes as to shut them up about the rest of the bull s**t continuing on around here.

The board of directors (who have no qualifications at all) hire unlicensed workers and pay for referals from family members as kick backs. It must be nice to be in charge of a coorportations money, especially when you are starving off of your social securtity. That's right they don't have retirement, these old bags have never worked a day in there lives, but they supposedly know how to run a buisness.

They let their drug addict families live here. They even paid out of the corporate funds to have restoration for the townhouse that was burned down by the meth lab due to the delinquents whose grandmothers are on the board. When my house flooded due to a faulty washing machine the co-op expected me to pay $5,000 to have their insurance give me $1,000 to fix it. My condo insurance was a secondary policy and would not pick up the bill. I unlike the tweeker neighbors I had to pay for my own s**t.

My laywer is not making much progress because I have already paid him the $20,000 retainer fee, so why should he work anymore, he's already been paid.

HELP to anyone! I am stuck in this s**t hole. I am currently going to school full time to be a teacher so I have no money to just pick up and leave.

Whatever you do: Do not buy "air space" or more commonly called co-ops. They are few and far between for a reason!

 I saw the ripoff report from the 19 year old owner that was ripped off by The attorneys, manager, board members that move from unit to unit in another co-op within the community to steal the Elections of the boards 1-6. I'm sorry that I judged the young 19 year old because of her age and a home owner at 19. (I bought my 1st place on contract at 15) I'm sorry that I judged here for such foul language. I'm a targeted individual living in one of 2 units I have purchased at Bethany Crest.

One in Alpine and one in Edgewater. A studio at $26,000 and a remodeled one bedroom at $10,000 from a really young owner that said she was dying of cancer and wanted to go back North to die. The board has 1st right of refusal to purchase back any share for the price of $1. One dollar US. and the asking or negotiated price of the owner. The extra assigned parking space was worth the $10k. But when I listed both of the units for sale through a licensed realtor-friend and she found a buyer that was a Phoenix School Teacher for many decades with perfect credit the Edgewater board denied his purchase of $26,000 +/- even after they refused Becky's $10.

(Now, I don't believe she had cancer. I believe she was cutting her losses and running for her life) The board cost me a professional and personal friend in Debra Koffman a true professional realtor that delivered the keys to the buyer from Cleveland that she professionally thought did NOT have the capacity to live on their own. As a s****.>

1. I was told that my unit had people in and out of my ground floor studio unit before my arrival.

2. That the young woman across from 1 bedroom unit had a bad accident falling down the stairs. She survived and was relocated to a 1st floor unit.

3. One of the Edgewater Board members (Travis) lived between these 2 single ladies. I feel like reverse female discrimination was being made against us.

4. Travis moved from Edgewater to Alpine board and 2 prior members displaced. And my neighbors are all being terrorized by Margret the manager her officer husband in the shadows and a board that allows non English speaking resident's to attack residents by gunpoint getting out of their vehicles while moving the assigned parking to the renters and terrorizing thieves that live on site. These thugs threw a rock at my window while the gardener was cutting the grass. The company fixed my window within hours but was replaced by new manager Margret as to siphon off funds as has been repeated reported as fraud.

5. The insurance fraud from board regarding car break-ins, theft, HVAC units, fires, floods, robbery and on & on.In my opinion has allowed this Not for Profit Organization has bought up surrounding properties that they say belong to religious organizations that discharge many caliber of firearms cheering religious chats afterwards. All the while lying the the residents about the ownership.

6. I(Rhonda Walton) am currently being evicted for walking on a cane the call a baton weapon. Those that I have lived here since inception 1963 also walk the property with golf clubs, golf and ball bearings for protection.

7. The plumbing is a big issue and the pre eviction notice of notification that we are coming after your unit. Especially if you have access to a washer or dryer in your unit. The laundry is the most dangerous place in the complex. Several RipOff report note laundry equipment as initial board complaint.( My guess is there is no line item on any of the multiple sets of accounting books. Me, I stopped using the on site laundry when they board and management allowed the armed neighbor that speaks no English and does not communicate to them in their language...

As I was blocked with only one way past and blasted by was sent the 2nd article of eviction for assult. The local criminal element stalk ALL for gain. I have witnessed men of large and muscular stature running into their units overburden with laundry, fast food, bags of groceries and sodas. And not because it was raining, extremely late night or that they should have made several trips... But out of fear. I have a complaint AGAINST me from one of the thugs to management for parking in an unloading zone...sorry you couldn't Robb me that day. But it wasn't long before they were successful.

8. My personal experience is as a targeted individual being discriminated against for?: Being a woman Driving an electric vehicle Witnessing the trauma in my community I walk on a cane I would call 911 to report firearms discharged on and off site. Reporting Red lining and gentrification Refused to stay out off pool Making demands to see security cameras that would show attempts on my life, removal of license plates, destruction of property against self, motorcycle, automobile, patio gate, front door, slased and air let out of tires.repeated complaints for patio door being unlocked while I slept. Hot spliced electrical cords laying across sidewalks as tripping and shocking hazards.

8. Asbestos, lead based paint left exposed after flooded unit upstairs grew mold in my unit to the point that it had to be removed by me because so many INSURANCE companies have cancelled the coverage at Bethany Crest Co-op. I know your correct in WHERE DO WE START? I HAVE NOT COVERED ALL OF MY ISSUES and the management and board keep adding unjust dues to my bill at the complex.

There are inaccuracys in the rebuttals filed here. It is true that Sandra does not understand how Co-op's work. She must also have had renters insurance because it didn't pay for the damage the washer did to her unit. She also miss-represented the deductible at the time. It was $500 and not $5,000. That was back when we had State Farm as our insurer. We were cancelled by them because of to many claims in 2011. Since we were cancelled by State Farm our complex was put into the extreme risk catagory. To get coverage our deductible went to $5,000 and now it seems it went up to $10,000 as I have heard. The board here is very secrative about that. Plus I don't know how she or other residents like Vickie and Jim went along with Sandy ever got a lawyer that would take their case in the first place. It was unwinable and a Judge ruled agsainst them in the lawsuit they brought against the complex. A Co-Op will always will be a Co-Op. It cost them $35,000 plus $8,000 in our legal fees that they had to pay as ordered by the court. One inaccurasy by one of your respondents is in 2006 Toni was not managing Bethany Crest #6. She left in 2001 and a good friend of then Vice President Gerald W. Becker and resident Barbara M. Fonk became the Managing Director and she is anything but professional and is very incomptent. She only follows Gerald W. Beckers instructions. He is still on the Board of Directors and has been for 15 plus years.

All that being said she is correct that the past and current Board of Birectors deny Sharholders access to records when requested or the current Manager Barbara drags her feet about getting them to you and you can't be positive they are current. All leaving an air of suspision about how legally the Board is running things. If you don't like your treatment by the Board of Directors and Barbara m. Fonk, I have been told as others have so sue us. If you call the Attorney, (Mr. Ayers) for the Cooperation you get stonewalled there as well. Thus all the oppisition to the way the Corporation is being run has been stiffeld by Barbara M Fonk and the Board of Directors. Shareholders are so frustrated that they don't come to meetings and have stopped trying to change things for the better. Our Co-Op is not run like a business it is run with deception and lies. But with no one to help us we who have become outcasts don't complain much anymore because the majority of the Shareholders don't come to Member Meetings. They just keep their heads in the sand and ignore what is going on. As long as the grass gets cut, the hedges, trees get trimmed and the pool can be swam in that is all that matters to them. They don't want to see that there is something sinister about how are business is run. If there were not why would you be denied records that the law says should be available to you as a Sharholder. If you go to the Attorney Mr. Ayers he also stonwalls you and tells you he works for the Board. His charge by law is to protect the shareholders in any dispute with the board as an arbitrator but he takes the Boards side and dismisses your concerns. All of this makes the honest Shareholders nervious about how sinister things are being run. Would't you be concerned? Your denied records by Barbra M. Fonk, When you complain to the Board of Directors you still don't get them and the same when or if you call Mr. Ayers you get no satifaction either. I had to send Mr. Ayrs a certified letter to get him to do what my phone call to him did not get any action.

Gerald W. Becker has been on the board for 15=+years. John E Dryden For 12+ years. Barbara M. Fonk Directing Manager for 14 years. Mr. Ayers as Attorney of record for 40 + years. In that time they have slowly gained absolute power & control over any oppisition to the way things are being done and have managed to keep all the business dealings of the corporation from the Shareholders.

I am stuck here because I need a place with lower costs and I would have to sell to have the money to buy into a complex that is run prifessionally. Since I am on the outs with the Board of Directors if I try to sell since they have the right to buy my unit first I am certain they would offer me a very low price and I would have to try to get a better price than they would offer or go to arbitration. In arbitration I would have to pay not only my legal fees but the Corporations. I don't have the money to do that and they know that. So I would take their price if I would sell and they would decide to screw with me.

 We have owned a Co-op at Bethany Crest for over 11 years.  We are extremely impressed with the Co-op concept.  Toni has been extremely professional and immediately helpful for any and all assistance we have needed.  The complex is the best kept secret in Phoenix.  I am shocked by the comments above and asked if we could write our personal experience with Toni and the management team.

I lived at B.C. for many years, raised my children there.  That being done, I am going to buy  a co-op again.  I came and looked at the B.C. complex and was very pleased.  I was shocked at the rip off review.  It occured to me that the writer of the review did not understand a co-op.  I just don't believe what was said.I belong to a food co-op, again, people do not understand the co-op concept.

There are always problems that present, but these are challenges to make a co-op better.  'No one ever promised you a rose garden', we are lucky to still have co-ops, learn how to use them to your advantage.  There are few opportunities in the world today, a co-op is an opportunity to co-exist with each other, much needed in this economy and reap the benefits of co-operative living and purchasing.
