The BBB of Buffalo, NY is engaging in shameless and unethical business practices.
They are cold-calling local business with the following message:
"This is (xxxxxx) of the Better Business Bureau. I NEED the business owner to call me at our Buffalo Office at (716)881-5222."
The message is structured as one of urgency. It cons you into thinking that a customer has filed a complaint against your business. The true nature of the call is to market the BBB's "pay to play" services to you. Don't fall for their slick and unethical ploy.
After doing some research, it appears that each local BBB is run as something of an independent franchise. The L.A. chapter was shut down to fraudualent and dishonest practices.

As per 2012 IRS information, DAVID POLINO runs the BBB SCAM there, at least in 2012 he did. As per that same IRS Form 990, this guy raked in a total of $272,598 for five hours of work each week. Karl is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, and its probably the ONLY thing we agree upon! The BBB is nothing more than a SLEAZY, SLIMEBALL scam. The BBB has absolutely NOTHING to do with ANY government body.
The BBB has ZERO enforcement power. The BBB SELLS these PHONEY "accreditations" to anyone willing to pay for them. Each BBB office has these SLIMEBALLS who are getting super rich by running their SCAM. Smart members of the business community have known of the scam of this pond scum for years. It is a SCAM of nationwide proportion. Do what Karl has said. Check out "BBB Scam" on YouTube.

It appears that the BBB is another nationwide scam, just like the U.S. Government. You can 'Google' this- BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU 20/20 INVESTIGATION, and watch that video on the web for proof.
