I have played this online game for over 3 years called Dark Orbit, ran by a company called Big Point in Germanyse.  I have spent some money on the game but not a lot, maybe $200-400 range.  There was increasing complaints about people using cheats in the game, one of the being termed "bots".  As I understand it bots are automated programs that basically fly your ship around killing aliens or collecting items in the game when you are not even on the game.

Recently Dark Orbit has started running a script that is designed to catch these "bots" which results in penalties.  I was not concerned about this since did not nor ever would use these cheats if I even knew how.  I began seeing claims in their forums where players complained that they were falsely caught by these scripts, and claimed their innocence.  To be honest I thought yeah right, like you would admit it if you were guilty.

Then a few days ago I logged in to find I had been caught botting and suspended.  An email to support brought me the answer that their "script was 100% accurate and there would be no further investigation".  Their responses also "assured me there was no error and this activity occured on my account".  They will not provide any proof as this would "provide the means for me to get around their detection script".  The last response was that they would treat any further email from me as spam.

Their "assurance" would indicate they consider me not only a cheater but a liar since I deny any wrongdoing.  They refuse to investigate any case individually because their script is 100% correct. Then yesterday in the forums a moderator responded to a person who asked how he could be safe from falsely  being identified as using a bot:

The only suggestion I can make is to try to break up any routines. Scripts (as a general principle) are designed to detect patterns of behaviour - by varying your gameplay it will help your actions to not be seen as overtly repetitive, and therefore possibly suspicious. Try spending some time doing other things besides constant 'boxing' - if you find that you aren't collecting as many boxes as you would wish, then I would recommend purchasing a PET to aid you in your efforts.

If the script is 100% accurate, why would players be told to avoid doing things in game that are supposed to be acceptable, normal gameplay?

I am willing to take a polygraph.  Will Dark Orbit?
