The Black Horse Pike Animal Hospital in Turnersville, NJ and the SOS-save our small dogs (supposedly an animal shelter, with no facility) are scamming folks to get their pets and resell "adopt" them.

This Hospital inflates the vet bill knowing folks can not pay that amount. They require up front payment of $5000 to $10000 for an emergency. Pet owner's can not afford that and are forced to surrender their pets because of these fees. The hospital then turns the pets over to SOS (save our small dogs) who by the way only take in pure bread small dogs. As soon as a pure bread comes into the vet, the hospital quotes an outrageous amount of money and they get another pure bread.

I took my pure bread champion Yorkie to the vet in critical condition. They require a $500 fee just to see the dog. Then they gave me a figure of $5,000 to $10,000 for examining and treating my dog. They would not care for the dog until payment was made. So my little dog was just lying somewhere in the back out of sight with only oxygen on him. I needed to have the money immediately. I don't know of anyone who has $5000 to $10000 on them. When I said I didn't have it the Dr. kept asking "What do you want to do?" having no other choice I had to surrender the dog. I did not get copies of any paperwork or breakdown of what my $500 went to. I was told I could call and get updates on my dog, however the SOS informed the hospital not to tell me anything. i was told "it's no longer your dog."

This is a scam. My dog was basically stolen from me and is about to be sold for an "adoption fee" that is not listed on www.sosdogs.org website. They say they are anon profit, but they sell pure bread dogs that are basically stolen from owners. When I questioned having my dog back because I found financing, they came up with the excuse that I don't have the means to take care of my dog and stated that I neglected him in some way because I didn't have him neutered or on heart worm. My vet never said it was mandatory to get the dog neutered or on heartworm. It was my decision not to have that done. I wanted babies by my puppy. This was a bunch of excuses to keep my dog as he is great health and she'll get a lot of money for him.

This is a racket. They're stealing pets out of their homes and reselling them. There is no facility for SOS. Barbara Evans is the owner and theif that leads that operation. She knows how much these pure breads are and sees money signs and the vet hospital calls her when these pure breads come in.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO BLACK HORSE PIKE ANIMAL HOSPITAL ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A PURE BREAD YORKIE! THEY'VE GOTTEN ALOT OF THEM THE SAME WAY THEY GOT MINE!

Long term customer

AUTHOR: TB - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, April 15, 2011

I have taken our family pets to BHPAH since I moved to Washington Township 18 years ago.
We have owned 3 purebred golden retrievers in that time period as well as another small purebred terrier and a mutt.  We have always been given an estimate of costs before any treatment was done.  I believe the emergency visit fee is around $115 now, but can't remember for sure.  We have never been asked to pay $500 upfront.
I'm sorry for the original poster, but owning a dog is an expensive responsibility.  If you can't afford to treat your dog, then you will have to make a tough decision.  We have spent over $3,000 on our dogs in the fast few months.  And when one of them had to be put down because he had cancer and we decided to let him go, they were very compassionate.
We are lucky that we were able to afford the care.
But as nice as it would be, the doctors are not running a charity.  They have a beautiful new facility, and are open 24/7.  The bills have to be paid.  If you can find a vet who will treat your dog in the middle of the night for free, then take your dog there instead.

And no, I am not friends with anyone there, and I don't work there.  I am a long-term customer.  The ex employee who commented must have been fired, thus the sour-grapes, because Eileen has been there a long time and has been nothing other than competent and great with our dogs.

As far as rescues go, I agree that many of them have very tough policies. But I guess when you see how some people treat their dogs as if they are disposable, you become very cautious.

One final personal note, you have more credibility if you learn to write grammatically correct english that is properly spelled.  It's bred as in breeding, not bread as in "Wonder".

KILLED MY PUPPY

AUTHOR: NOT KNOWN - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, June 11, 2010

Everything that they have said about the Black Horse Pike Animal Hosptial is true becasue on Wednesday I had took my pet there becasue she haven't ate in a couple of days. When I got there they charge a $105.00 for nothing because my vet had give them a list of everything that they had did on my puppy. It took them 4 hours just to give my pet the fluids that she needed becasue they were too busy worrying about how much money they can get from you. When I told them I knew what was wrong with my pet the doctor still told me that she wanted to do blood work, full body exam, and give fliuds and that didn't include the overnight stay. They wanted to charge me $1500 for just that. I know that if they stop worrying about riping people off and take care of the animals then so many animals won't be dying. In your best interest I WOULDN'T TAKE ANOTHER PET THERE IN MY WHOLE LIFE BECAUSE I BELIEVED DEEP DEEP DEEP DOWN FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HERAT THAT THEY KILLED MY BABY AND THEY CAN'T TELL ME NOTHING DIFFERENT. IF THEY WOULD HAVE GAVE MY PET AN IV SHE WOULD HAVE STILL BEEN HERE. I MISS AND LOVE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH THAT I CRIED EVERYNIGHT.

This listing is infactual and completely misrepresented.

Our hospital is proud to provide 24 hour emergency service to the community at a reasonable cost. Currently the emergency exam fee is $95, which is lower than most other 24 hour emergency facilities.

SOS Dogs www.sosdogs.org is a 501(c) 3 non-profit rescue, not an animal shelter. We are pleased that this rescue often trusts us with the veterinary care of their rescue dogs. We are also pleased to offer the humane option of allowing clients to surrender a pet as a last resort if they unable to provide necessary medical care. Black Horse Pike Animal Hospital in no way profits from providing this service and staff often donates time and resources to the care of these animals.

Be assured that in any situation where an owner even considers surrendering a pet to a rescue, there are extensive surrender agreements that must be completed and signed by the owner beforehand.

It is a disservice to the community to attempt to discredit a much needed and appreciated 24 hour emergency veterinary hospital and a charitable rescue organization.

#6 Consumer Suggestion

BHPAH & SOS Dogs are both exceptional

AUTHOR: Lin & Eileen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 12, 2009

We have adopted several pets from SOS and were not previous dog owners. My suggestion is; the anonymous writer of the original posting should speak to both BHPAH & SOS Dogs for details on her particular scenario. The fact that the director of SOS only places dogs in the best possible homes is a WONDERFUL way to assure these homeless pets have a future. If this person couldn't afford to save her ailing Yorkie then of course she shouldn't be given another one. And before she immediately jumps to a conclusion; why would she not get a second opinion from another vet?
It's obvious she had a sick Yorkie she couldn't keep. So once she surrendered it she went to the internet to find another one. BHPAH is a wonderful, caring vet hospital that conducts business upfront and above board. They give an estimate before any procedure. They have gone above and beyond for us many times and understand when cost needs to be kept at a minimum. The person who slandered both organizations should be careful not to speak before all facts are known.

Ridiculous......

AUTHOR: Rubyred - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Are you aware that millions of animals die in shelters everyday? I know you are...you state that yourself on your own website. So why is it that someone so concerned with the welfare of homeless dogs, likes to make it so difficult to adopt one.

I read your "adoption requirements". No children under 5? No large pets? Home visits? And why on earth would you have to be an experienced dog owner with a vet history? First time dog owners can be awesome pet parents as long as they educate themselves beforehand...but I guess you don't think so. Lemme guess..in addition to all of this your "adoption fee" is probably somewhere in the range of $200 to $500 depending on the dog right.

Who do you think you are? I care just as much about shelter pets as you probably do but let's face it...these are DOGS not CHILDREN. No wonder you sit on the same dogs for years on end. No one is apparently good enough to adopt them.

Get off of your high horse and actually make a difference instead of just pretending. You're not fooling anyone lady.

When called by a vet and told of an owner who HAS ASKED FOR THEIR DOG TO BE PUT DOWN BECAUSE THEY CAN'T AFFORD THE MEDICAL TREATMENT, SOS DOGS ASSUMES THE FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN ORDER TO SAVE THE DOG'S LIFE!!! We then have to pay the vet bills in the THOUSANDS and get an adoption fee of a few hundred!! Does that sound like a scam to make money? We LOSE THOUSANDS with every dog we save in this manner. But we are here to save dogs' lives, period. There is nothing sinister about it, and this report is libelous and totally untrue. If we did not take this dog from this woman it would be DEAD! Check out our website www.sosdogs.org under SUPER SAVES and see the dogs we have saved....dogs who would have been shot in or starved in puppy mills, dogs who would have been put down due to illness. With every dog WE LOSE MONEY!!! This woman is ignorant of what rescue does and is simply venting.
