Luckily for us, I realized that there was a 7 or 10 day Cancellation period from the day we had the "free, no obligation" seminar, and jumped on it just in time.  It took about 30 days to have the down payment credited back to our account.  Had we missed the window of opportunity, we would have been stuck with this payment the rest of our lives!! Ugh

It is a 90 minute seminar where you are not allowed to talk, even to your husband.  The speaker goes at a high rate of speed to confuse you.  In the back of the room, someone will "acknowledge" they own a timeshare, and "Love it".  BEWARE: Intimidation to the point of harassment, as you are singled out as a father who "Doesn't LOVE" your family because you don't buy their timeshare.  (They don't say much about the yearly HOA of around $650 that you are required to pay THE REST OF YOUR LIFE".

After the 90 min. we were handed over to a saleman who kept talking to the manager, then coming back to us with a lower price. The manager came over to us with a story to our salesman "Bob, you didn't tell them about the special we are doing right now?" Our salesman looked unaware, but later I found out this was a scam tactic.  Bob also told us that he "wasn't allowed to share certain information with us" about ways we could make money investing using our timeshare.

At around 1:00 I asked multiple times if we could go have lunch, think about it, and come back. (My husband had not had breakfast).  We were told we COULD NOT LEAVE!!  I begged for an opportunity to get a bite to eat as it got later and later, and kept being told we could not go, and if we did we could not come back.  I am one who can usually smell a rat, but when you are tired and hungry you can become incoherant!

Within 2 days we were back home, where I felt very uneasy about our purchase, and googled it.  I found that others were in my shoes.  I also found that if you MISSED your 7 or 10 day grace period, you would be ever stuck with this contract.  Be advised, if you are military, or if you or husband becomes disabled, etc. there is NO WAY that you can ever get out of this contract!

Best bet is to KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.  You have the right to cancell within 7 or 10 days, depending on the state you sign your contract in.  Don't set the paperwork aside, look over it immediately, Google Blue Green Scams, you must send the books with a written request to cancel your membership.

If you are Prevented from Leaving

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 23, 2009

If anyone is prevented from leaving a timeshare pitch simply pick up your cell phone, dial 911 and tell the dispatcher (within hearing of the salesman) that you are being held against your will and tell him or her where. I can assure you that you will be shown the door in a hurry.
