I recently received a card asking me if I wanted to sell a parcel of land that is 38.5 acres and close to Western Carolina University. I was just talking to a Real Estate agent about selling it but decided if these people gave me a decent price I would just go that way.
They promised to pay cash and all closing costs. I filled out a form which included what the property was worth and how much I was asking for it. I told them it was appraised for $400,000.00 and I was asking $385,000.00. I thought they might offer around $250,000.00 or more for it.
Within a week of filling out a form, I got a letter with an offer to sell included. The offer was for $5054.97 for 38.6 acres of prime wooded property. I consider that a rip off and an insult.
Of course, I wrote them a letter refusing the offer but I am concerned about others being scammed into selling their property for nothing.

REsponse to Report/Claim

This is a complaint that was addressed last year, and it was the result of a misunderstanding about which property we were proposing to purchase. The seller had multiple properties for sale and this offer was not for the expensive property that the seller wrote a complaint about. This was cleared up by referencing the tax map number and legal description on the offer we sent to the seller, and we definitely were not making a $5k offer on a property valued at $400k. The seller understood the offer was for another property they owned. The complaint at was subsequently retracted and we parted with the seller on good terms.
