Started a job at this company a little after I graduated from college. It sounded like a great opportunity and when they said they wanted sports minded people I thought I would have a good chance b/c I was involved in college sports.
This was the worst job ever! I would have to drive over two hours in the morning to go to a "site" often this place was in the ghetto where I would be walking alone for hours. I spent about $1,000 of my own money and never received a dime from this company! I worked there for two months. My work hours were from 8am to 7pm Monday thru Friday.
I had tried on numerous occasions to file a report with the better business bureau about this company but nothing became of it. I just hope other recent college graduates who think this is a great opportunity will read this website and not make the same mistake I did.
This is not a professional career!! It is just a scam to make someone else money!!

BMK Marketing is a pyramid scheme

Russ, you are right. It is the same type of company.
Constant lies about what happened to apps and payroll. Lies about benefits and wages. Lies about being able to write everything off.
How many times have you heard, "Don't worry about it, it's a write-off!". I've heard it way too many times and found out the hard way that it was not true. Lies about the amount the manager and assistant manager were actually making. We were always told by the manager that he doesn't live rich because he doesn't have to flaunt all these materialistic things. Part of which may be true, but one of my coworkers at the time took me past his house and he lived in the upstairs portion of a 2 family house. With a roommate, in a not so nice section of the Bronx. If I was making the alleged 6 figures that he was, I would at least get some decent living quarters.
All we are asking is that the company be honest with it's potential employees. Tell them that they will not be paid for at LEAST 3 months (if they are lucky). Tell them they will never have any benefits, even when they do become assistant manager. They will have to buy their own benefits. Tell them they will never receive a salary. It will always be commissions. Tell them that they have to pay for their own gas and transportation, and they may be working in ghetto and sometimes unsafe territories. Tell them they will be working at least 60 hours a week and take home only $250 bi-weekly.
Tell them that if they are stupid enough to stick it through to ownership, that they still may have to go out into the field to build up their own office, and they will have to pay for everything. Tell them the dream that you sell them is one big lie. Then you won't have postings about what a corrupt business you run, and your business may not get shut down due to lack of interviews. Hey, at least no one can accuse you of being dishonest.

Same Nonsense-Different Company

Here in Mississippi there is a company called Encore Marketing (see the specific threads on Rip Off Report). They do almost the same thing except it's BellSouth instead of Verizon.
Incorrect payrolls? Missing or cancelled apps? irritated customers? Yep..all happened and is happening here.
So, for all you potential customers and sales reps, please do yourselves a favor and stay far from this pathetic excuse of a company.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds
HEY GUYS!!! HEY WHAT??

BMK Marketing group is a scam!!
Everything that was writting in the previous post is a lie. Allie from Katonah is right.
Yes BMK is located in Westchester, but we barely pitched in Westchester. I worked there for 6 months a few years ago, right out of college, and we drove to turf and pitched in ghettos like Jersey City, Newark, and Hunts Point in the Bronx (where all the hookers are). Definitely not safe areas. If something happened to you out there, you had no insurance to cover anything.
We barely made any money, and it didn't even matter how much apps you dropped that day, or how many lines you signed up for centrex. On paper you could have made $200 that day and hit the gong, but did you ever see that money? No. Because we were told that there was always something wrong with payroll. Every week something was wrong. When "payroll" finally got it together, we got a measly check for $250. But all along you thought your commissions were banking and you would collect a check that had all of your commission. Working for 3 months with no pay, but "earning" at least $500 a week, I should have gotten a check for about $6,000. Nope. We all got $250.
Then even though "payroll" was in working condition, you had to wait until your apps cleared, and if that customer called and cancelled their service with Verizon, you didn't get your commission. Working 60 hours a week for only $250 (not guaranteed) bi-weekly is nothing. It's not even worth the "opportunity" they preach about. Not if you have any sort of bills to pay. I always wondered why people who quit wrote letters threatening to sue. I was brainwashed. Now I see why.
I had to pay $700 in taxes that were not taken out of my paycheck for social security. We were never told that when we signed those 1099 forms. Do not believe anyone when they say that you can write something off on your taxes. Not everything can be written off.
Things got rough, and people started quitting. At least one person every week was gone. The turn-over rate is ridiculously high. I should have noticed something when I got there and all the employees had been there no longer than 6 months, but the assistant manager had been there 2 years. How can an established company for years only have employees that have been there 6 months or less? There were no outside offices that they all went to help start up.
I am just trying to help those who may see an add for BMK marketing, or maybe BMK marketing will have it's head-hunter (receptionist) contact you. Please stay clear of this company and other MLM or Cydcor/Cydcor-like companies.
Verizon should really know about the bad name BMK is causing them to have with small business owners.
After I signed people up, you would have to give them your number in case something went wrong. People were calling me left and right because although I explained the stipulations of their CONTRACT with Verizon, they didn't fully understand it (because due to BMK tactic, you have to impulse them, and not go into too much detail so they won't change their minds), and Verizon couldn't help them because we signed them up. I was getting cursed out by people after I quit! It was terrible, and I didn't even misrepresent the product. All I kept hearing was how much they hate Verizon. Not a good look for Verizon.
I'm doing the best I can warning people because I wish someone would have warned me before I got sucked into their cult-like rituals. Please read my other posts on rip-off report about BMK Marketing Group, in White Plains, NY, and post your own if you have any horror stories simlar to mine.

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company
You must be confused....
AUTHOR: Annmarie - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, August 02, 2006
Allie,
We feel you have us confused with someone else. We never had an employee here at this firm with your name nor did anyone work here for a period of anywhere near 2 months. All of our workers stay. We don't have a high turnover like similar businesses in our field. All of our Employees are happy to come to work here.
As for your 2 Hr commute to a "site" in the Ghetto, we don't travel outside a 45 min radius. We are located in Westchester where there aren't too many "Ghettos" to be found. So again, We think you have us confused with another company.
There is a reason why "numerous reports" with the Better Business Bureau never went anywhere. They do their research to make sure people aren't filing "FAKE CLAIMS". We have a solid reputation and we plan to keep it that way.
If you would like some help figuring out who you were actually working for, feel free to contact me.
