My son and I went to Bob Rohrman Libertyville Mitsubishi to buy him a "new" used car upon our arival we were greated by everyone being so wonderful and kind. Our salesman Crocket showed us a few cars in our price range of $7000.00 when we came upon a 1995 Audi a4, black and beautiful, just the kind of car a 17 year old would love. We asked to take it for a test drive, noone could find the keys! It took over a half hour for the dumb asses to find them.

After the test ride i asked what the rubbing noise in the frount of the car was i was told and i quote, "it is a rubber boot that covers the shock it is torn but will not affect the driving or saftey of the car' we bought the car paid cash and were on our way. two days later my son comes hom in the Audi and says the check engine loght came on so i called the dealership and talked to robert the general manger he said bring the car in and we will look at it. we brought them the car that day the had our car for 2 days and called me to say well sorry but your engine is blown and you need to buy a new engine! but said they would give me a great deal and only charge us $3750.75 i said dont sound right i got that car 2 days ago. they said sorr theres nothing we can do for you. i went to pick the car up, well have it towed and they same people who were so eager to great us on our first visit now ran from us like the parting of the red sea. we towed the car to highland park audi who looked at the car and told us the tie rods are broke, front brakes are shot, converters have been removed from the car and the spark plug wires are bad needs a tune up oh and the engine was not blown! I have been going back and forth with this dealership for 3 months now they are the worst if you want to get screwed go to bob rohrman

#4 Consumer Suggestion

buyer beware

AUTHOR: Sorrytotellyou - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 25, 2009

when i read how much you paid for that car, i thought it was a bit much until i searcched the internet and saw others pricing their 1995 Audi a4s as much as the one you pruchased. (I still think $7,000 is too much to pay, though.)

i'm very sorry for what happend to you. i know how it feels to buy a car and not get what you paid for it, because i bought a NEW car and it didn't live up to my expectations... but that is another story.

first off, here are a few suggestions that may be able to help you or someone else who may be reading:

* i'm a female who doesn't know much at all about cars so, if i can, i go to the dealership with someone who does.

* i ALWAYS have any car i'm about to buy professionally checked out by a real mechanic. perhaps if this had been done, a mecanic would have discovered the problems and saved you $7,000. only costs about $200 to have a car checked out. it would have also taught you not to buy another car from Rohrman.

* does a LEMON LAW apply here? its a good law to understand BEFORE you buy a car.

* also, please remember, you are purchasing a car that is more than a decade old. that means it almost has to have some problems, so it is better to know what those problems are BEFORE you buy. (Does the average car now-a-days last and run well past its first decade? just asking)

* and lastly, people buy used cars because they think they are saving money -- and they should save on a used car. but when that used car costs $7,000, it may have been easier to apply that as a downpayment on an affordable NEW car instead. i bet you could buy a nice new car for under $17,000. your kid is ony 17 years old and doesn't need to have the best right now, just transportation. a new AFFORDABLE car would have lasted until the 17-year-old got completely through college and maybe until they landed their first job. just sayin.'

* also, you letter shows you were impressed with how well the salespeople treated you when you first came in, but flipped the script on you when you came back with complaints. that, my dear sir or madam, is what many salespeople do: pretend to be your best friend in the world to get your money and then refuse to help you when you want to return what you have bought because it was a piece of garbage in the first place. be wiser next time and pay no attention to what a salesman selling such a big ticket item like a new car has to say (unless he will put it in writing) or do. or remember this: if their mouth is moving, they are lying.

sorry things turned out so badly for you. but you may want to think about a new car, since they are on sale right now, along with used ones.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

This may help...

I can't address the other issues; it's buyer beware when buying any used car, but...It is illegal for any dealership (ot private individual for that matter), to sell a vehicle that has had the emission system tampered with. I'd suggest contacting the Illinois Secretary of State's office (Jesse White) and if they don't forward the complaint to them, notification should be made to the EPA in Washington.

You might want to contact the dealership first and see if they are willing to take the car back after you advise them of your plan to report this matter. They can face some rather hefty fines and might be willing to buy the car back at this point. Even if they do though, I'd still file the report as any reputable dealership would check to verify that the emission system was intact prior to accepting the vehicle for trade and resell. In fact, whomever traded the car originally may also be held responsible as when you trade a vehicle, part of the small print is a certification that the vehicle has not had it's emissions system altered. The dealership may very well be able to recover what they gacve for the trade from the prior owner. Good luck & let us know if this works for you.
