this company is not what it is made out to be.these people only look out for them selves.i went to work at bolt express on 11/21/2009-and was dispatched out on my first load with them on 11/23/2009 i made my delivery on 11/24/2009 in penn.and from there i set for over 4 days witout pay as well as having to set up in a truck stop because i could not run the truck to stay warm for fear of not having fuel. as well as i had to go for these days not having food or money to buy food due to having to have money to run toll roads i had to go without showers as well this was an exstreamly imbarassing situation for me after i finally got out of penn i made it to michigan just to do without again it did me no good to ask for money because i was told it's not my problem buy the owners i continued to run until i wound up at the hospital in berea ky. on 12/3/2009 which i was told at that time by the doctor that i had to get myself home to be checked out by my own doctor which i still have not been able to do because after all this running over the road i find out that i still get no pay because i have to pay for the fuel as well as the repairs of this truck that i don't own as well as i have to pay for the tolls that were not mine.the company and owner told me to take the toll roads.they are making me pay for there satelite system which is not mine either these expenses are not my responsiblityand i need some help from someone to get what is rightfully mine.i worked for 11 days and used maybe 30 dollars for the use of my phone which the company required me to have all together i may have had about 35 dollors to myself for over 11 days and trust me it's imposible to live on the road for 11 days on 35 dollors.once i got home i was in for 1 week and when i was ready to go again i was told to go and pick up my load and come back to the house and i would recieve pay well i did just that and still no pay finally i had enough i can not starve myself to have a job and i can not drive a truck for nothing only to pay someone elses bills.i am fased with utility shut offs as well as having to move my home from the rented lot .and all because i was promised to be worked and paid.i do not expect anyone to pay me for nothing hawever i do expect to be paid for driving over 2500 miles.once again. which i have been paid nothing for. and whats really bad these people say i can do nothing about it because i don't have money that it takes to hire a real lawyer well they are right i don't have money but God knows what they are doing. if there is anyone out there that has had this problem please don't be afraid to say something being afraid is what lets them win. if i only had a chance i would stand up for all truck drivers that have been misled and left out in the cold by promises that these companys make before you go to work and then during orientation. just one thing to say to these companys out there.don't say things you have no intentions of backing up. because sooner or later someone is going to stand up .and well i am standing up.and i will continue to stand until something is done about not just this company but also the other companys that are getting away with this same behavior. always remember we the drivers are what builds these companies. and we do deserve to be treated with respect.thank you for your time and please. any response is welcome.. thans again

Dishonest Truck Owners Prey on New Expedite Drivers

The above rebuttal is some what correct. Your issue is with the truck owner and not with Bolt Express. If you are going to file a report you should file it on the right person or company. I also am an expedite driver and was also taken advantage of by a dishonest truck owner when I first started driving. I did not let that deterr me from the profession and now am with a very honest owner leased on to Express 1. My husband and I are team drivers and are making decent money.
What you have experienced is quite common. There are many dishonest truck owners out there that will take advantage of you, especially as a new driver.(To be honest it is my belief they prey on the newbies) You must check out a truck owner before signing a contract with them and driving their truck. Two of the best places to check out an expedite truck owner is expeditersonline.com (this is a website for expediter drivers and people that want to break into the expedite business, you can find out information about owners by posting a thread requiring about the owner you need info on. You can also find a truck owner to drive for by checking the free classified section or by posting yourself as available under free classifieds) and here on rip off report (always run the truck owners name through ripoffreport' search engine before signing a contract with them). If you have already driven an expedite truck one of my suggestions to you, if you are wanting to drive for an honest owner would be to call a company called Expediter Services. There is a link to them on Expediters Online's home page. We drove for them for over a year and they are very honest. Their set up is 60/40 meaning you get 40 percent of the line haul, they get 60 percent and they pay for everything, tolls, truck washes, repairs, oil changes, fuel, q-com, ect. They have trucks leased on to Express 1, PantherII, and Fed Ex. Just remember the fair split between driver and owner is either 60/40 or 40/60. Whoever gets the 60 pays tolls, fuel and q-com. The driver never pays for truck repairs or oil changes that is the truck owners responsibility. Truck owner should also pay for oil and anti-freeze regardless of split. If you are offered anything different then this say no to the truck and keep looking. Good luck!

First, you must understand, the company itself is a non-asset based firm, meaning they have no actual trucks themselves. Second, your contact is not with the company directly but with the owner-operator, unless of course you are the owner-operator with a truck leased onto with the company.
But, in this case, it appears you are a driver for an owner-operator which you should have had a contract with this person. In this contract it should be telling you when you get paid and how you get paid. Also, it will tell you what is you have to pay for. In most cases, it will tell you it will be 14-21 days before you get paid any monies. In all cases it will tell you that you have to buy your own food and cover your own expenses, such as for phones, showers etc.
In most cases, at least when I drove for them, the company in this case, Bolt Express would place enough fuel money on the fuel card where you could run the truck, pickup and drop the load plus keep the truck running to stay warm.
The problem here is not with Bolt but with your owner-operator and the contract you signed with him. If he states in this contract when you get paid then not seeing your money during your 11-days on the road is more than likely within the contract agreement.
Read your contract, if you dont have one signed, then that error is on you. If his payment terms is in the contract and he doesn't have to pay you till the 14-21 days then that error is on you.
You are a private contractor. Your contract is with the owner of the truck - not with Bolt Express. Read the contract, more than likely he is within his legal right to deduct the cost of recovering the truck from you, any expenses he may have occured with you in the truck.
Find someone who truely understands this private contractor agreements, but I can assure you Bolt Express has no reason, nothing to gain, or nothing to lose by not assisting with your problems - you did not work for them, you worked for the owner-operator.
