Im not here to bash Booms Quarter Horses, im just here for that person looking for background info on them when buying a horse from them. We bought a horse from them in the early months of 2017. They said they had the horse there for atleast a month (they get all their horses from different places out west we were told.) There was a small area to try the horse out which was there hard packed driveway that was about 50 yrds long. They saddled the horse quickly and we tried him for about and hour, asked all the question such as health, utd on shots, feet. And teeth. They had only had the horse for the month so tgey did not know much. then we decided to get him, $2500 for a nice registered QH gelding, who could pass that up. We brought him home and quarantined him just as you would do with any new horse. Within 3 days the horse had the worst runny nose we had ever seen so wr called the vet, the took samples and confirmed it was strangles. Now since he was in a seperate area from our other horses we hoped it would not spread but the vet reassured us that it was very contagious and would not take much to spread. We contacted the booms immediately to warn them of what happened bc he was in their barn and pastures with several other horses. They thanked us and continued on their way. The other horses he was pastured with were still posted for sale and they continued to bring others in. We had only wished someone else had warned us that they had sold horses with this disease before. I know things like this happen, but when it does precautions must be taken to ensure other animals safety. And i feel like the Booms did not do that what so ever.
