During the phone interview, employees are told that the compensation is a Base plus Salary.  It was also told to candidates during the in-person interview.  Once you become an employee it is revealed that it is really a draw.  The draw is $30,000.  1 or 2 employees are making over $30,000.  The kicker is you make 15% commission on a sale.  You have to sell at least $200,000 to make up the draw.  In most true sales positions if you sell that much you are making $60,000 with a true base.

As long as you make a few sales they will keep you around because the owner, that is from England and one of the worst people persons I ever met and two managers are actually reaping the benefits.

There are no fringe benefits.  You are told that you have to get your own insurance and will be reimbursed $100 of the premium; I have never seen it happen.

The office environment is horrific.  Old monitors, boxes of magazines collecting dust etc.  They do not offer coffee, as most decent employers do.

Avvertisers are lied to about placement and distribution.  They will start high with a price and drop and make it seem that it is urgent to go into the publications.  DON'T FALL FOR THIER DECEPTIVE SELLING TACTICS.  If you look for these magazines, the only one you can find is the PGA Tour.  ADVERTISER DO NOT ADVERTISE IN THEIR PUBLICATIONS, YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR MONEY'S WORTH.   The office is full of magazines that are supposed to be shipped to the locations the salespeople are trained to lie about.

The owner and mananagement treats employees like crap by yelling at them in public.  There is no respect.

The turnover is high. I calculated over 50% in a month.  Most only stay a few weeks.

PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYEES AND ADVERTISERS STAY CLEAR.

SMALL BUSINESSES BEWARE

AUTHOR: Mike - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, August 23, 2010

Boston Hannah preys on smaller businesses.  They try and avoid the larger ones because they tend to have an advertising agency represent them.  They know many smaller businesses will be intrigued by the opportunity to advertise in a magazine.

Take a look at their publications if they solicit you.  The advertisers are small because the larger ones avoid them.

The sale people are trained to avoid advertising agencies because they know that the larger organizations can see through the ploy.
