I have two issues with this educational institution which are as follows.

My first issue with Bridgepoint Education concerns their instructors and what happens if you do not pass a class.

I was also a student for almost one year and they have very questionable policies regarding how they handle what happens if you do not pass a class.   I took a class that I did not pass because I could not get help from the instructor so did not finish it. It was a hard class and each time I emailed the instructor for help he would respond with you must not have read my instructions thoroughly or something similar to that.

This instructor was also very hard to get in touch with and because each class only lasts six weeks, I was stressed out trying to get the work for this class finished.  I was working full time and had just started a new job when I was taking this particular class so it was difficult.   Once I did not complete the class, the school would not apply my student loans to the past due amount and then sent this amount to their collections department.

I was contacted by their collections department who wanted me to make a payment of around $175 per month so that it would be paid off in 12 months.  Really?? Who has that kind of money in this economy? I attempted to make a payment of around $100 for a few months but it became too much for me so tried to do $50 a month which was not enough for them.   I was recently laid off from my job so they sent my account to an outside collection agency.

I would advise anyone to seriously think if you want to get involved with this school as they are a for profit educational institution, which means they will be tell you what you want to hear to get your money.  Based on my experience with them, they are in the business of making money and have little or no concern as to whether you will be successful or not.

From what I experienced, some of the instructors dont seem to be too involved with regards to the students success and dont want to offer to much assistance.  Out of the five classes that I took while attending U of the Rockies, only two of them were helpful to me.  Buyer beware!!!!.

My second concern involves my attempt to gain employment with the Denver location of Bridgepoint Education.  I feel that I was discriminated based on my age as I am over forty years of age.  I had an interview at their downtown Denver location for an education counselor position last year.  Prior to the interview I had to fill out their online application and was asked twice if I was over 40 years of age.

I am over that age and was offended that they would ask that as it is against the law to ask that question.  When I brought it to the attention of the recruiter at their headquarters in San Diego, CA she denied that they would even have a question like that on their online application.  During the in person interview,   I was left wondering if they are discriminating against people based on age.
