In an attempt to save money I contacted Brinks / Broadview Security, soon to be ADT about my 3 year contract.  It was up in a couple weeks.  Super!  I contacted the company a week ahead of time to ask them some question about canceling my monthly monitoring.  I specifically asked them if I cancel the monitoring would my system still function?  Will my door chime still work?  Will I still be able to set my alarm even though it won't call out to Brinks/Broadview?  The answer to all these questions was my system will still work just not call out to the monitoring service.  Great!  So I proceeded to setup the cancelation of the monitoring on the 14th (the last day of my 3 month contract).  That day passed and they canceled my service for sure.  I noticed my door chime wasn't working and looked at the control pad, it had a number to call and no functionality of the old system was working.  When I called and question why the hardware was not functioning the rep told me a disable signal was sent to my equipment disabling my system.  I was shocked!  I asked to speak with a supervisor who was even ruder than the rep that I had on the phone originally like they were getting off on telling me I had no choice.  The supervisor said "Thats our equipment!"  Well if he would have looked at my bill of sale from the install, we paid over $700 for installation because we added additional key pads, sensors, etc.  So what he said was not true, only some of the equipment was not purchased by me.  So after paying $700+ up front for installation and over $1,000 for monitoring over 3 years I now have expensive wall art that does absolutely nothing.  How can they get away with this?  I was lied to on several occasions.  I had them listen to my original call where I asked 4-5 questions about making sure the system still functioned after I canceled the monitoring and they concentrated on one thing.  The rep said we are putting in a cancelation in for your service, (after hearing for 5 mins that I could still use my system without the monitoring I said Yes).   I asked to listen to the call because the lady was refusing to acknowledge that I even asked the very important questions and she refused.  I asked her to play the first 30 seconds of the call because thats how I started the conversation...If I cancel my monitoring can I still use my system...  The support I received was rude and they consistently lied to me on the phone.  The only option I had was to renew for a year contract to get the monitoring turned back on.  Once its back on I will pursue my options.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thanks

Jason
