A friend of mine received a letter stating they won money from the British Lotto.
She was selected through the computer from 1,500,000 drawn from Asia, Europe and North America. They even gave us the lucky numbers.
She was approved for the lump sum of $85,500.00. They gave a reference number: GACC/2855/7705. From a total cash prize of $1,453,500.00 to be shared among 17 people.
They enclosed a check for $2,992.57 so that we could pay the fee of $2,829.00 to cover the taxes.
They asked to keep this award from public notice until your claim has been processed. Or should I say until you are completely scammed!!
From working at a bank, I always hear about how people get fraud against their accounts, but I never understood how the consumers let it happen. Until I saw this for my self, the check looked real but I knew off the bat that the check was a fraud by the numbers at the bottom.
The proper order for the check numbers is the Bank Routing number (which is 9 digits long), the account number, and the check number.
They had it all backwards, (check number, routing number, account number)
I immediately called the number of the person on the letter (Silvie Jackson) and I asked her what this was about. She kept stating, "did you read the letter?" I said "Yes, but why do I owe you money." I asked her how she got my name and she kept saying through the computer, but never how she got it or who provided her my name.
I looked up the routing number and it was a valid Bank of America number but the company name on the check was Nevamar Company, LLC. They are a laminating company for countertops!!!
So I did a search on British Gaming Commision and brought up this site, and needless to say "AH HAH" came out of my mouth.
I hope these bastards get what's coming to them. I just pray that no elderly person gets this letter and think it's the real deal.
