TO DOG OWNERS OF WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA: BEWARE OF BRIZES KENNEL of Elizabeth, PA (Pittsburgh). As a dog owner, I STRONGLY advise all dog owners to take their pets elsewhere. Do not go to Brizes Kennel! Your dogs will be mistreated! They will just lock your dogs up and throw the keys away. I knew my little dogs were not happy when I put them there 3 times. When I tried another kennel, boy, I could see a big difference in their behavior. So, something tells me that something was wrong with Brizes Kennel. I informed Barb Brizes that she is not permitted to put leashes around my little dogs' neck because of small windpipe according to my Vet.
Well, after the third time using her kennel, I discovered from pictures that were developed from my camera, she had my dogs on the leashes around the neck and choking them like hell. That really upsets me so much and brought it to Barb's attention and asked her why she did this to my dogs. She just brushed it off as if it was nothing. I was really shocked to hear this. Barb Brizes doesn't have the ability to resolve any issue because of her BIG egoist and she's suppose to held the highest standards of what a kennel is all about since she's licensed by ABKA (American Boarding Kennels Association). She's on the verse of losing her license. I knew my dogs were not getting enough attention at her kennel and lost weight too.
After the photos, it confirmed my guts feeling that Barb Brizes shouldn't be in kennel business since she only cares about making money and have no directly involved in her kennel business, letting some college student doing all the dirty work. Her kennel is overpopulated and under staff! Take your dogs elsewhere; do not go to Brizes Kennel! I have filed a complaint with BBB (Better Business Bureau) and ABKA (American Boarding Kennels Association).

Kudos to Brizes Kennels

I have had 2 dogs kenneled at Brizes Kennels in Elizabeth over the past 10 years - no complaints whatsoever. My current dog is part pit-bull and other kennels would not take her. I had this dog trained at Brizes, I board there 4-6x a year, and she is groomed there. SHe loves the place! Her tail wags and she cries excitedly as we drive up the hill to the kennel. She gets walks and swim time in the summer. Brizes NEVER mixes dogs for play time or swim time as some other kennels do. The kennels are always clean, Shiva has an upraised bed, part of the floor is heated in the winter, and the runs are very large - not crates like some other places use. My other dog developed kennel after staying at another kennel and that is when we found Brizes. Barb treats all of the dogs holistically if any of them come down with something while being kenneled there.
Every dog loses weight at the kennel after a lengthy stay - not the same food and they do miss home. How does this person suggest that the dogs are led into the kennel and back, led to grooming, etc? They have to be on leashes. Perhaps this person's dog has never learned how to properly walk on a leash and not to pull and strain. Proper behavior of a trained dog is effective to not causing them harm.
I have recommended Brized to many of my friends who own large dogs. They have all been pleased with the kennels, the training and the grooming.
