Alan and Julie Pitts at Broken Cedar Ranch sold us a horse that was completely misrepresented.  They lied about her vet issues, they lied about her training, they lied about her demeanor.

The horse that they sold us was delivered with a bowed tendon.  I informed them within hours of her arrival that she was not in acceptable condition.  They told us that she was fine and that she probably injured herself in route to the new home.  They also said that they had given her butte (anti-inflammatory medicine) because she had a temperature prior to the 1.5 hour transport- what b.s.

Over the course of the next few days we realized that the horse was not as "calm," friendly, or "beginner appropriate" as they had led us to believe.  I had purchased the horse for me and my eight year old son- and he couldn't even go near her as she was so unpredicatable.  The horse had clearly been drugged when we tried her and her legs had been bandaged in polo wraps so that we could not view the shape of the legs.

After spending over $3000 rehabing the horse and realizing that she was not the same horse behaviorally from the one that we tried in Pueblo.  The vet, the trainer, my horse friends all agree that Alan and Julie Pitts of Broken Cedar Ranch pulled a fast one and completely committed fraud. IT is also very clear that the horse had been abused while in their care.

The Pitts didn't even organize a brand inspection when they sold her.  They took my money and didn't return any of my calls, texts, and emails about the condition of the horse.  I tried to request that she was sent back to them minus 30% of the $7500 purchase fee.  I would have even welcomed 50% of my purchase fee refunded and a return of the horse.  It is very apparent that they knowingly sold a horse that was injured and would not accept responsibility for their actions as poor horse trainers, business owners, and honest people.

I am now stuck with a horse that is never going to be sound (they started her way to early and beat the lights out of her).  I have had two major injuries regarding behavior with the horse- horse running me over and kicking.  I do not blame the horse at all as she is just utilizing learned behavior from when she was mistreated at Broken Cedar Ranch.

Please, please, do not buy a horse from these people or at the very least do not accept a horse without a trial.  If you have a trial you can see first hand if the horse comes off the "drugging" and if the horse is lame/not lame within days.  You will also get a better feel of the temperment.

These people are crooks of the worst kind.

This report is not believable

I have bought this horses mentioned in the above report from the past owner at an auction. I realize when you buy a horse from an auction you really have no idea what your getting into which if fine . After I purchased the horse the past owner made sure she found me to sign a bill of sale (which was fine and nothing out of the normal) She told me she had to sell the mare due to her current health issues. She then gave me her personal info. And said I could call with any questions I might have. I did notice the scar on her front right canon and proceeded to call her and ask about it. She did tell me that the mare had a injury but she would be fine though out the rest of her life. I had requested her past vet records to further investigate her injury to make sure I didn't push her to re injure herself as I was looking to train her for barrel racing , the current owner ageeded to send the records that I never did recieve . After calling her and leaving her messages she seemed to changed her mind and was no longer contacting me back. I then went to the vet and asked for them and they had told me that the records have been sealed and they were advised not to release them to me or anyone. This has lead me to believe she has been lying about the whole situation. I mean come on why wouldn't you want me know what happened for the horses well being ? Unless you were hiding something ???

I have a feeling that the report made above is false in many ways and she had injured the horse in her care . Kind of looks like some standing boots were left on way to long and she somehow got wrapped up in them ! She had mentioned that she had bought the horse for her and her 8 year old son. This mare is four years old (still a baby) why in your right mind would you buy a young horse for your young son and for yourself and expect it to be a "calm" and a "beginner appropriate" ?? As far as the mare kicking and running her over I also believe is false ! This mare is has had a three year old little girl running around her dragging brooms and making all kinds of noise and exactly what she is can run up to her right after and pet her ! (Not proud of this but) my three year old has ran up behind her and the mare didn't think twice about her , along with a very large dog attaching himself to her tail and was hanging !!! Didn't even think about kicking to get him off at all just kind of spooked and ran ! Not a mean bone in this mare body , except for the typical four year old/mare behavior! This horse shows no signs of being abused or miss treated what's so ever ! As far as her saying the horse was drugged when they went to go try her out is complete B.S ! If you were selling a horse and some people where coming to try it out , you would work the horse first right ??? The horse was tired and was ready to be put away! She is obviously uneducated about buying a horse that would fit into what she would need the horse for ! I have a feeling this lady had bought a pretty palomino horse due to the fact that thats exactly what she is !! I have been in the horse Business for year and we all know these kinds of people!
