On 12/5/11 I purchased a Samsung Digital Camera from Amazon.com also posted on Brookstone for .96 + S&H. Mine came to $7.00 from Amazon.com. A few mins later I received an email conformation stating shipping and delivery between 12/9-12/14/11. Then the money was taken from my account. So today, I get a email from Brookstone stating they goofed, and cancelled my order. I have since been in touch with several other consumers (over 60) stating the same problems. I believe that since the advertising was on both Amazon and Brookstone for the same price of .96, that Brookstone set this price to lure people onto their site to purchase then jack the price up. In 30 mins it went from .96 to $88.68 to $99.00. I feel that Brookstone should be made to be held accountable for false advertising and as professionals they should of had someone proof the ad before posting on both sites. Thank you, Tammy S (((REDACTED)))@yahoo.com

Pricing error?

If it had been a pricing error that had been caught by a spike in sales and promptly removed, I would completely agree with you. However, this price was on two separate sites, and was left up for almost 24 hours. I am sure there was a spike in sales. If it had been posted on one site, I can see how one might assume it was an error, but on 2 sites? One might assume it was a close out or clearance sale.
The company also offered the people that placed the orders a discount of 15% on any order they placed in the next 7-10 days. And the FTC includes Sec. 238.3(a) The refusal to show, demonstrate, or sell the product offered in accordance with the terms of the offer as part of 'bait and switch'. That would include the advertised price.

Bait and Switch

Let me guess you heard the term "Bait and Switch" and thought it was a pretty cool buzz word to get peoples attention. Unfortunately you don't even know what it means. True Bait and Switch is where they advertise an item, but when you go to buy the item they try to steer you off of it telling you it is no good trying to get you to buy a higher priced item.
In your case they said it was $0.96. They realized it was a mistake and instead of just charging your card $90 they cancelled the order. Now, if they did charge the $90 without asking for approval THEN you would have a complaint, but that is not what they did.
Errors happen. Companies are dealing with hundreds if not thousands of prices and some errors are going to slip through. Unfortunately the Internet can magnify these errors greatly and at a faster speed. I would bet that most if not all of the 60 people you talked to heard about this price through some blog or social media and "jumped" on this obvious error in the hopes of getting a good price. Most likely Brookstone "caught" this error because of the huge jump in sales. Believe me when they see dozens of units being sold in a short time there is someone who is taking notice. If it was only one or two and those people kept it to themselves they may have gotten a very good deal.
If you want them to be held to that price, I hope you never make an error and are being held to selling a $5000 car on-line for $500 because you forgot a zero.
