On January 10, 2009 I went into Broughton's horn store knowing that I didn't have my receipt and wanted to return the horn and cancel the contract. Since I didn't have a receipt the lady behind the counter said that I need to have it to return the horn. I advised her that I couldn't find my receipt and that they should have a copy. She went to look for the receipt and came back and stated that she could not find the receipt and that I need to take the horn back until I find my receipt. I told her that I will not take it back because we have no use for it. The school has provided us with a horn. She insisted that I have to have the receipt to return the horn and then they will stop billing my account. I told her that they will stop billing my account because your merchandise is here. Also, why don't you have a copy of your customer contracts? I left the horn at their store and insisted that I would not take it back, it's a rental. I closed my bank account that next Monday, due to her advice. They will not consider the horn as a return and continue to draft.
That harmless return immediately turned into a horrible situation.
I later called back to ask for a manager and spoke with the owner. This made things even worst. When I explaining to him that I have no need to rent the horn anymore and that his sales rep would not accept it, he then said that I should find my receipt. I explained to him that I can't find it and he should have a record of it also. There is a serial number on the horn. Please look it up. He blew up, stating that it is not his responsibility and he actually see the horn there with him but he can' do anything about it because I don't have my contract. His words and I quote someone could come and take it for all I care, you didn't return it, I'm gonna get my money anyway.
Needless to say I was livid with his poor service and lack of help to resolve this matter as a store owner. Also, the BBB has a report on them and so do their affiliates.
