I began renting from Brownstone years ago, their service seemed pretty standard. I paid 36+ months of positive rental history, and never a late payment.
1st house
Located in a bad neighborhood the first house I rented had a furnace problem in the middle of winter, and it took 10 days with no heat for Brownstone to repair the problem. Brownstone has a habit of allowing slumlords to get away with letting their properties become run down and uninhabitable.
When the first house was returned it was returned in excellent shape, and I never heard a complaint I am used to rip off landlords trying to keep my deposit. This house was sold to another company and they fixed it up.
Did I mention the roof leaked everytime it rained and their repairman didn't fix it properly? Well its true.
2nd House Lesson not learned still dealt with these thieves.
I rented a second house from them and paid on time every time.
They refused to come and do repairs until we moved.
They refused to have the front screen door fixed.
Their staff tried to charge me for pre-existing conditions on the home, which I have letters of proof on. There was a pile of concrete block that a neighbor could testify had been here for 4 years and they sent a letter claiming if it wasn't removed it would be done so at our expense.
To top off the 2nd house, the owner decided he was gonna sell. The realtor Jeff Barker was rude and nasty to me, and created housing problems from the start, (see ripoff report Jeff Barker). He claimed I threatened him, when all I told him in so many words, is I am not cleaning for him anymore.
3rd straw that broke the camels back
I applied to Brownstone for a new rental unit located in Lynchburg, and they denied my application because of what the realtor said. and their claim of the current condition of the current property I have. Which is a lie, their people refuse to come and do the repairs, and violate the Virginia Landlord Tenant Act like it doesn't exist. They support their slumlord, instead of their loyal tenant who is disabled. I have every right to expect I would be treated equally under the law for housing, when in fact they discriminated against me because I am schizophrenic, and can't be held liable for my action toward their realtor. Which was only to tell the guy I am not cleaning so he can sell me into the street, which is fair. I have a Fair Housing complaint lodged against them with HUD, and will be suing them in court for discrimination. Glad they put their reasons in writing to me, as its now a piece of cake to prove they broke the law. As a disabled person, who hears voices, and believed they are evil, I am not responsible for their decision to deny me, but they are! Thats the law, so get over it Brownstone, and when you read this realize that every week I will advertise this site under another url, and let people know exactly what kind of business you run. Thats not all, wait til you see the rest, thats in fact the tip of the iceberg. Jennifer Lucado runs Brownstone Properties, and supports slumlords who try and charge the tenant for everything, instead of doing the proper repairs. Only the worst kind of person will ever do business with these crooks again (my opinion).

Brownstone mailed my final checkout and lied by claiming that rents were late and that keys weren't turned in on time. I returned the keys in their drop box on the 30th of June as ordered and can prove I moved that day.
I also have all of the receipts because I paid by check to prove rents were never in fact late.
This is obviously retaliation for filing a HUD claim against them for discriminating against the disabled. Which they do lie, cheat, and steal routinely as a part of their unethical business practices.
They claim legal action will follow if I don't pay them $150, well GOOD!
Because I can prove their lying and I will sue them for my deposit back while I am there since I took pictures of the property before exiting.
All that needed to be done was 2 carpets cleaned and pin hole size holes repaired from a chair I have that has a metal jagged edge thats a recliner.
So my advice to those that read this, is DON'T TRUST THESE EVIL PEOPLE.

Brownstone doesn't realize that by claiming that it was the situation from a 3rd party, and all I have ever done is have words with a rude realtor, consider sending people over to a persons house who is recovering from hearing voices for 6 months 24 hours per day, then so be it. Then they have the odacity to claim the current condition, when I am done taking pictures of the place after I clean it up, then we'll be submitting that via internet to the HUD investigator. From that point HUD will determine that because in fact you used an unreliable 3rd party whose interaction with a disabled mentally person can not be held against him in further housing decisions. So when both reasons are clearly discriminatory because of that fact, then the company gets fined hefty sums of money by the Federal Government and sued for harassing the mentally disabled.
