This is just a notice for anyone thinking about working for Buckeye. I was a unarmed guard at malone college and worked for the company for a year.
We will not get into details about how the security office at malone college made jokes about their students!
Jim jinks a supervisor in the canton office, for whatever reason. I did nothing to this man, i guess he hates anyone who is in competition with him. From the time of my interview until my last day of work this man disliked me!
Then, they make you undergo a 10 hour training class for shoplifting and they do not even have work for you to go out and do after this course. Your simply ON CALL forever!
I took the shoplifting test 3 times, and im still not working! whats up with that? I cannot think of anything else but Discrimination!!!!!

#2 UPDATE Employee
Buckeye Protective Service.. Hacks and drunks. You haven't misssed anything.

Buckeye Protective Service, Inc is one of those companies that's good for a "get-me-by" in a bad economy. It should not be looked upon as a REAL career opportunity. While this is an old, established firm, it's run by broken down hacks and drunks. Sorry, but that is simply the truth.
Most of the "guards" (Buckeye insists we are "Security Officers" although their paperwork says "guard" as does the card we carry.. go figure. But hey, this is a company that can't even get its name right, is it "Buckeye Protective Service, inc." or "Buckeye Protective Services, inc.? Uniforms say one thing, checks and paperwork another.) should never have a gun in their hands. Personally, I wouldn't arm any of them.
As for "training" that is a joke. Walt Justice, with the title of "Development Director" or some sort of crap, "trains" people to be "store detectives". If you were to follow Mr. Justice's advice in the field you would probably end up in court being sued. And for the record, running down shoplifters really sucks. It's not a real job. No one in their right mind would do this sort of "work" for any longer then they have to. It's best left to those folks with nothing better to do with their life. It's full of pitfalls and in the end the company will NEVER support you. Even though they "trained" you and you followed everything to the letter.. which by the way is impossible.
Here's an example of what I mean: Walt Justice says you must keep your eye on the shoplifter constantly. You can not take your eye off of the prey not even for a second. Why? Because the shoplifter could easily foul you up by ditching anything he or she stole and when you stop the individual you've just made a "bad stop". Which could get Buckeye and the store in deep do-do. What Buckeye does is give you three days off without pay! And then they pray the "victim" is too stupid to file charges. But there is a big problem here that Buckeye CAN NOT ADDRESS. And that is, it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep your eye on the shoplifter constantly. It simply can not be done, by anyone. Justice says you tell the shoplifter, "You have items you forgot to pay for." DING! NOT! All the thief has to say is, "Oh, you're right, thanks." He/she then pays for the item and there isn't a thing you can do about it! And Mr. Justice claims to have 20 years at this! HA!
If shoplifters ever caught onto how this nonsense goes they would realize they could make a FORTUNE setting up these "store detectives". Grab an item, turn a corner and ditch it (still in the box), then leave the store. When the "security guy" stops you file a lawsuit.
As for their uniformed "Security Officers" most of them (not all) aren't qualified to defend themselves much less protect others. Although Buckeye says their job is to "observe and report", if push comes to shove small or old (or both) women, kids and fat, broken down men aren't going to be of any help at all. And for Lord sake, forget about that ridiculous "Road Patrol" gang. No one in their right mind would rely on them in a real crisis.
If you didn't get a "job" with Buckeye don't sweat it, you haven't missed anything.

There IS a Word For It : RIP-OFF

Sounds like to me you MAY have been ripped off.
If you are working at a college, then why do you have to take a SHOPLIFTING course? That makes no sense unless you were working at the College bookstore part=or full-time.
Your state requirements for security officer should have been enough.
If you were FORCED to take this class in order to keep your employment, then you should report this to your state's agency that regulates private security agencies!
I hope you can articulate your case with more details than what you provided here.
