Basically, my new 2009 Buick Enclave smells like gas. This is not to complain about the dealership that sold me the vehicle, but to bring awareness in a public forum about the problem. Mostly, it smells on deceleration (when coming to a stop). I was told by Koons of Tyson that this is normal because of the "fuel evap system" but I've owned many cars in my 40+ years, this is my 9th new car and I've had 6 used cars. This is the only vehicle ever to smell like gas and I'm not a happy camper... and for Bill of Koons of Tyson to try to force down my throat that this is normal, is outrageous.
I also get about 11.94 MPG.
This vehicle is mainly driven by my wife and when she first told be about the smell, I thought maybe she was exaggerating, only to find that when we were taking a donation to the Salvation Army, when we pulled up, the smell was so overwhelming that I said we have to take this in today. I took it in two times to Koons of Tyson's and finally gave up on them since their service manager Bill thinks this is normal. Now I took it to Route 1 Pontiac GM and they couldn't duplicate the smell. They kept the vehicle for a week to see if it would smell (after sitting in it for 15-20 min) like gas for them. It didn't. So a buddy of mine took me to pick up my vehicle. On the way home, I smelled the gas again at a stop light. On the way home, I had to make a short stop and my buddy asked me if I smelled the gas at the stop light, I told him yes, it was overwhelming in my vehicle and that I'm glad to now have a witness other than my wife and three kids about the smell. I am keeping a log of each time it smells. The dealership asked me to bring it back if it smells again, but the problem with that is that by the time I get it back there, the smell will dissipate (it only lasts for a minute or two).
Now I'm stuck with a gas guzzler that smells like gas. Thank you Buick and thank you GM, for making me realize to never buy a GM again.
Now I refuse to pay for a vehicle that could kill my family.

Vehicle has been purchased back by GM

Thankfully, someone at GM authorized a purchase buy-back. Thank you. However, we had to make some compromises. We had to pick out any GM and they'd buy it. If the MSRP didn't match, we paid the difference if the new MSRP was higher. So we looked and the only thing coming close without being another version of the Buick Enclave was a Cadillac SRX. The Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia are just versions of the same vehicle. I didn't realize until I got it, that the Cadillac SRX pretty much is too. Remember the Cimarron of the 80's? I do, and it was nothing more than an overpriced Cavalier with the Cadillac name put on. This is what the SRX is now.
There still are pros and cons with this, at the very least it doesn't smell like fuel like the Enclave.
Pros: It doesn't smell like gas, newer vehicle (2010 vice 2009), better gas mileage (if you call 14mpg good).
Cons: Lost a row of seats, platinum white wasn't worth the extra $1k., gas mileage not all that great (14mpg). Rims are aluminum, but the chrome is a fake, it's actually a wheel cover, not a chromed rim. Cheesy, much like the Cimarron.
The fuel MGP these vehicles are not as rated by GM. Unless Im going downhill with a tail wind, then yes, it matches.
