Early October 2006, our 1999 Camaro RS developed an idle and running engine vibration. Pretty sudden onset, as if something had broken down. Checked for AAA registered repair facilities in the area, contacted Burke Centre Automotive.

Left the car with them October 3rd, requesting estimate before proceeding on any repair, but authorized them to replace oil and filter and lube the chassis at their advertised rate. October 4th they called the house and told my grown son that the secondary ignition was breaking down and needed to be replaced, and quoted a figure. He in turn called me at work, and gave me a quote of $76. Apparently he got it wrong, the quote to perform the engine diagnostics and replace six ignition wires and six plugs was in fact over $700!

Informed the shop manager I was livid about this bill, since from the time the estimate was given to my son to the time we were called that the car was ready for pickup was less than 90 minutes, yet we have been charged $486.47 for labor, of which only $7.45 is for the oil change and lube service.

I questioned them about the $21.95 per plug charge and was told they put in platinum plugs. I checked with Patterson Chevrolet, and this model uses regular $3.95 plugs, not the high compression Z-28 platinum ones.

I talked with Chris, the shop manager, who never returned any calls and was absent every time I was about to drive over to their shop. I talked with Monte Carter, who was too busy to continue our conversation and unavailable the following Monday when he said he would be there.

I am also filing with AAA since its their recommendation that got me into this in the first place.

Mr. A is obsessed with Rip Off Report.

Hi,

My name is Siri and I worked at Burke Center Automotive for 3 years. First, we were a very honest shop, in fact we bend over backwards to help any customer of ours. Second, I remember Mr. Andrus and his antics, he was out to get someone from the onset of his experience at Burke Center Automotive.

He was unreasonable and he threatened to sue the companyas he paid his bill.

This customer is a bad example for someone to follow, he is not intersted in resolving his problem. He is interested in confrontation.

Burke Center Automotive was always honest when I worked there.

#1 REBUTTAL Individual responds

Burke Center Automotive - Mr. Andrus - 1999 Camaro

AUTHOR: Cm - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 08, 2007

In response to Mr. William the invoice was completed on the date of October 14th, 2006. Mr. William brought his vehicle to Burke Center Automotive to diagnose a rough idle and running rough condition from the engine of his 1999 Chevrolet Camaro. Upon turning the vehicle on the technician noticed a heavy surging condition at idle, he diagnosed the condition and prepared the estimate for customer's approval of the repairs.

The customer was contacted about the current condition of the car and was estimated for repair at the cost of $762.93, the customer consented to that price with no hesitation and we proceeded with the repair. The repair was completed in a timely fashion then the customer was called to pick up their vehicle. Upon arriving to pick up his vehicle Mr. William was presented with the invoice, he began proclaiming that the price of the invoice was outrageous and we were way out of line for that repair cost. I (Chris Burr, Manager) was at the counter when the customer began his proclamations. I quickly responded to Mr. William asking him if he had been contacted by our service manager and stated the full price of the repair before we completed the work.

Mr.William answered that he had been contacted and that the full price was stated before the repair was completed. I then stated that this was a good price for the repair and then asked him if there was anything more I could do for him I, he quickly declined and stated he was going to the Better Business Bureau. I have priced this job out at five differnt repair centers finding our price to be the 2nd lowest of the five, this is not a standard simple as it sounds reapir job. We love our customers at Burke Center Automotive and we always want them to be satisfied, the facts in this case are: we diagnosed the problem with the car, we called the customer for authorization of the repair, we performed the repair competently and on time, and we performed the repair for the price we quoted the customer before the repair.
We would have gladly worked with Mr. William to resolve his misunderstanding while he was at our store, he was adamant about making us pay for his perceived rip off.

I was not contacted about this repair again until our AAA representative called me and we resolved this matter at that time per Mr. William satisfaction.

Sincerely,

Christopher M. Burr
