The price attracted me - but you get what you pay for. I had the VPS plan, and it ran fair for what it was - with the usual issues that a company who does not know what they are doing has (security stuff) - yesterday, i get an email telling me that there was "abuse" having to do with my server an that it has been over 24 hours. They suspended th account, which i understand - if it is spewing spam then unplug it, but when I told them I was sorry but I did not get the 1st email, they told me to bad, played the TOS card, and refused to even let me get any data off the server. They also wanted a $50 fee for this mystery abuse, which according to the headers, has nothing to do with any domain or email i have ever owned or even heard of. Their support is abysmal at best. I have NEVER got anyone on the phone, and as far as tickets, they answer them with such a bad attitude it is not even worth using it. Of course they refuse to give me a refund AND they refuse to let me use the server so that is some free money for them I guess. Letting a person retrieve data from a suspended server would be nice, but when you sign up with a sub standard company, I guess you have to expect these things. The bottom line - AVOID burst.net - Spend the extra money and get a gator VPS or a dedicated from the planet or a GOOD company. Price - it was $22 a month, VPS 1gb ram, 1.2Ghz (I think) Uptime - fair. I had some issues because the server was provisioned with lax security and had problems with stability, but I was able to fix that myself.

Nonsense, from someone that obviously violated our AUP/TOS

AUTHOR: BurstNET - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, December 19, 2010

1. You purchased an UNMANAGED VPS...which means security is YOUR responsibility. Of course we provisioned you a basic unsecured VPS!

2. As far as not knowing what we are doing: We are in business nearly 20 years, and are one of the founders of the whole web hosting industry, the co-creater of the budget server industry, one of the largest VPS providers in the entire industry, heavily involved in the original creation/development of the industry standard control panel (CPanel), and have absolutely nothing to prove here. If we don't know what we're doing, then no one in this industry knows what they are doing!

3. You agreed to out TOS/AUP and Service Agreement, which clearly states our policies, procedures, and fee structure. Your lack of response to an abuse notification is not our responsibility, nor our problem. You failed to take action, and we acted per our standard policies---plain and simple. You stated you did not receive an email notification (hosted off our network obviously, since you received notice afterwards you claim), that is not our fault, that once again, is your responsibility.

4. We charge fees for abuse issues ($50) when a client does not take action in a reasonable amount of time, or atleast notify us of such in the works, to motivate clients to do so, and also to cover our costs for having to employee staff to deal with these issues that we should not have to. Our goal is not to make money on these fees, but get the abuse issues resolved, and cover our costs.

5. We do not re-activate service until such fee is paid, otherwise, 99% of the time, the abuser will just take their data and run, without paying the abuse fee, and probably not any other service fees due prior. If you did not pay the fee, or work out a resolution with customer service (which typically they will void the first the first time it happens, if you explain the reason, and are plesant), of course we will delete the account eventually.

Obviously you flipped out, rather than take responsibility for your abuse issues, and attempt to resolve it civilly with us...so I'm sure we didn't bend the rules for you one bit.

We are one of the largest VPS providers in the entire industry, if not the largest, for good reason--and it is not because we have bad service, treat our client poorly, or and a dishonest company. After 20 year is in business, we have nothing to prove here.
