I am a Realtor in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. I had a client who has his home listed with me, and he previously had it listed with BuyOwner.com (also known as MLS Realty). Long story short - they didn't bring him any buyers and he had to move out of state soon so he called me. We got an offer on his home and the title company ran a title search to check for any outstanding liens. Guess what? "MLS Realty" had placed a lien on my clients home and he had no idea why. Neither did I! So I called BuyOwner and asked why there was a lien on my client's home and the rep I talked to said "Ooops we forgot to remove it" - even though they had already been paid in full by my client appx. $2500 for doing nothing. I asked why they place liens on Seller's homes and they told me they do this on every home they list, regardless of whether they are paid up front. This makes no sense to me. It was a huge hassle to get the lien removed and my client said that they had never mentioned to him that a lien would be placed on his home - no doubt it was buried in the fine print. I am a Realtor - I don't get paid upfront. I only get paid when I sell your home - so why does this company do it differently? Beware of any discount brokerages because there is a reason they are discounted. The saying that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is, rings true here. I've heard of may other people finding themselves in similar predicaments with BuyOwner lately too. There are reports on RipOffReports that say the company is being investigated and I certainly hope so.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds
FROM THE INSIDE OUT
AUTHOR: Jane - (U.S.A.)

I want to shed some light on everyone who uses this company from the inside of this company. I represented this company for many years and what I am about to share is something that unless you were part of it THERE IS NO WAY THAT you would believe it. I dont to this day understand why the tv stations and other media that has been contacted by the many different reps that have witnessed this from the inside, the greed and I mean greed and complete ripoff to homeowners for years would never do anything. I believe now it is because they pay allot of advertising to the media companies and for so many years that there is no way they would do that to them, and guess what the media companies are not going to care about you the consumer over a company that spends an incredible amount of money to get in to your living room and rip you off. When I first started with them their most expensive program was 3999. This was fair and the lowest 1299 was never shared with a an appointment because God forbid you sold a low money appointment to a customer, you would be tongued lashed severely and immediately after the appointment. It was better not to sell it than do that, Crazy but that is how it was. The 3999 and lower was fair, everyone was earning a very good income, the homeowners were happy and it was good. First you have to know the owners that it is my understanding that they handed the Buyowner side of the business to their son Scotty who owned one of the triangle of the trappings. Yes they are all the same under different brilliantly thought up umbrellas. BuyOwner, MLS realty and S&S finance, the ones that finances the fee for one month. The owner Scotty Eckert Sr then a very robust and energetic 78year old and his wife Sibil a lunatic if you ever met one who has a bipolar disorder who has never sold anything in her life sat at the command office hollering and insulting her representatives every single day.To the extent for many years that there is no way that you would believe this unless you were part of this. This lady was the real life example of Cruela devil (ABSOLUTELY NO EXAGGERATION) She always had a small group of her representatives that she liked and these reps would sit at her office daily and do what ever she said to do, smile jump you get the picture. There were three that were her very favorites, Mellisa, Keith and Beth and it was rewarded by getting the best appointments that could be had and avoiding the repercussions of not selling the appointment. These three averaged from 400,000 a year to 350,000. Did you understand what I just wrote? It didnt mean that they had the acceptable percentages of 85% closing ratio and above from this self appointed goddess lunatic, usually they were in the 50% to 60% range but they were set aside and as she called them her trinity. The average yearly income for putting up with an incredible lashing everyday was 150,000 That was the low man on the pole. Commissions were around 20 to 25% of the fee charged to the customer and if you were liked you were given 30 to 40 plush appointments per month and if not you would be give 10 appointments per month of the worst neighborhoods that exited. They used to have a bonus for reaching a certain amount of sales volume per month. If you were not on her approved liked list that month, you only got about 10 to 13 appointments per month no matter how good you were and then if you were close because of your good selling skills with your 11 appointments and were 2000 to 3000 short of it one to two weeks away which was only one sale and you went out on your own which was difficult to do as all the appointments called in from their advertisements and get close to reaching that volume they would shut you down, stop giving you appointments and force you to go in to a training class so that you would not reach the bonus. The bonus was 10,000 per month. Also if your percentages bettered those of her protected 3 you would be put on that list and be given the lousiest appointments so that your percentages could not compare to her three. Those three were individuals like many who the most they had ever earned before was 30,000 per year. These three went as far as to ruin other peoples lives in the company as they became the bosses attack dogs. These three suggested that they would sell more expensive packages and they put together a a 4999. package and at that price it was still acceptable and the majority of customers felt ok with it. Then the pushed the idea where the sky was the limit charging as much as 15,000 to a unsuspecting homeowner. The push to sell homeowners at these incredible prices became the push and the pressure of the company to its representatives to do so. The owners well in to millionaires for many decades would destroy anyone who got in their way as they did for example with the person they had in charge of MLS realty when he left them and started a similar company. The owners found a way to have him arrested and is today serving 7 years in a penitentiary. This would be a number one selling movie if someone would do so. (NO exaggerations in any of this ) Through the years I have heard that many of the same people that used to be the kiss you know what of the owners and some who were afforded the 400,000 eventually fell from grace as everyone does after a while. Remember she is Bipolar. Well they after being given the best and ruining many other opportunities for their peers sued and they received some money as well. This company is no good down to the bone. These techniques you speak about were taught every week to their then 32 reps to sell to the homeowners. The reason they do not have a card is that they are there to close you when they come out you dummy. This is a one time sale. I realize that someone from the real estate industry could not understand that as there are no salesmen in that industry but that is a whole different topic. This company is not only unfair it is evil and they do not care about anyone except money. Here is a line that the owner believed in and shared with more tenured reps. She would tell us this " When I bring on a new salesman I make it easy for them to earn the big dollars the first month and after they do I own them" I watched this practice month in and month out for many years and for me it was a college education on how a human being could allow him or herself to be completely owned. You would not believe to what level people will allow someone to belittle them. It was sad.

BuyOwner Update

I previously tried to update this post but it isn't showing up so I'm trying again.
I talked to the CEO of BuyOwner. MLS Realty is a seperate company from BuyOwner. They did use liens on homes in the past but that is not in practice anymore. Glad to hear it and I apologize for assuming that BuyOwner and MLS Realty were sister companies when they are not.

I talked to the CEO of BuyOwner. Previously MLS Realty did put liens on properties it listed but this is not in practice any longer. I am told also that BuyOwner is not one in the same as MLS Realty, they are seperate companies that had some kind of business arrangement in the past. Glad to hear that liens are no longer being placed on homes listed with MLS Realty and that BuyOwner is not using this practice.
