I received a letter from CAMCO on 1/26/04 stating I owed them almost $3,000.00 from a debt they had bought from Midland Acquisition, which was originally held by Barclay. The letter stated I needed to call them and speak with Beth Karl. I called the next a.m. and spoke with Beth who informed me that this was a owed debt from 1991 and that I needed to pay it.

I informed Beth that I had basically perfect credit, had bought a home in the last 4-5 years, as well as refinanced twice. I also told Beth that it was very difficult to buy a home without almost perfect credit. Beth proceeded to disagree with me and stated that she used to work in the mortgage industry. I respectfully disagreed with her. I asked her what proof she had of some sort, i.e., a signed contract, a judgment from a court. She said the only information she had was my name (old previous married name), the date the debt was from (1991) and she had the last 4 digits of my social security number. She also stated she had a signed "affidavit".

I informed Beth that I worked for a law firm (which I do) and that I wasn't sending one cent, or making any payment plan until I saw written proof of something. I requested that Beth send me a copy of this "affidavit". She said she would (although I don't expect to receive it).

I checked into Barclay and only found a bank in the UK which I know I've never done ANY business with. I could find nothing on Midland Acquision and when I tried doing an internet search for CAMCO, no website came up, just this great website, ripoffreport.com.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I didn't buy it, thought it was a scam and was relieved to see other people's stories. I wrote a cease and desist letter to CAMCO, sent it via certified mail and cc's the Attorney General for California.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY THESE DESPICABLE CHARACTERS!

STATUS UPDATE RE CAMCO

AUTHOR: Laina - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 28, 2004

As suggested by others, I called Experian Credit at (888)397-3742 and added a fraud security alert. They said it would be added, it would be reported to the other 2 credit agencies, Transunion and Equifax. They also said they were sending me a free copy of my credit report and gave me a confirmation number for the fraud alert. I feel much better and more secure now!
