Canam Realty Filed Suit Against me 3 years after move out Phoenix AZ

I rented a home from this company. I completed my first lease and went month to month without any issues. Rent was ALWAYS paid on time. We advised Monica there that we were looking to purchase a home and when we refused to use her as a realtor all of a sudden month to month was a issue. She claimed that the owners are demanding a lease or we need to vacate the property.

Again we told her that we didn't want to do this because of a offer we just put in on a home and we don't want to be in a bad situation. Again we had been renting month to month for SEVERAL months. She came back and said the property owners didn't care. Claimed the owners would let us out of the lease with proper notice and all we would lose is our deposits. Under pressure we signed the lease. After all we didn't have a choice in our view. We gave proper notice and thought that the large amount lost was just a life lesson and moved on. The RIGHT thing to do would have allowed us to continue month to month (there was never a problem paying the rent) and allowed us to complete the purchase.

3 years has gone by and no phone calls (phone number has been same for 7 years or more), no letters, no NOTHING! On September 18, 2018 I left to go to work and found paperwork regarding a law suit on my screen door. Some of the charges are for cleaning of house (was told cleaning deposit was non refundable so we wouldn't have to clean it) but we had it professionally cleaned that cost us several hundred dollars. The house was cleaner than when we moved in! We did it because it was the RIGHT thing to do! They are also charging us over $2000.00 for collection fee! What? What collection effort? No call, no letter, Nothing! This is the MOST cowardly horrible interaction I have had with anyone in my life. Called attorney office and left a message. No call back thus far.
