Cannet Internet Services ripoff Poor Dialup Service Quality Unstable Connection Will Not Repair Local Access Numbers Repeated Disconnects Canton Ohio

Up until a year ago, the Cannet Internet Dialup Service was reliable. It was the only reasonable Internet alternative to AOL (since other ISPs did not have local numbers and DSL/High Speed is not in the area). Netzero, People PC, Netscape ISPs had only long distance access numbers.

Anyway - starting about a year ago, their only local access number started to become unstable. Their modem banks would be offline, connection speeds of only 11 Kbps, or connections initially at 42 Kbps and then a disconnection after 2 minutes.

Cannet said at first it was my computer and phone line. I had AT&T check my phone line and I used a friend's AOL account for a few weeks. My phone lines were okay according to AT&T and AOL never failed to connect and I always connected at 41 kBPS or better (with a long distance phone charge mind you).

I reported the problems to Cannet multiple times. Their support via email is never answered. I called and the representative was courteous - continued to blame my computer and AT&T's phone lines. She suggested I try using a Cannet access number that was a long distance charge. I did and got the same poor performance, even worse than than before.

After talking to AT&T, AT&T had me dial up the Cannet access numbers as they traced my line. As usual, diconnects and poor performance. AT&T confirmed the issue was with Cannet's telco equipment.

After reporting this to Cannet, they still insisted it was AT&T's problem and my computer. To date, their dialup system is still not reliable and they will not investigate.

The BBB was notified, but nothing has come of it.
