I subscribed to a job-seeking website for both job-seekers and employers which means that companies looking for employees can sift through resums and upon finding that which they seek send potential applicants an email.
Most of the emails I got were either from insurance companies or recruitment companies who claimed to have jobs for me.
My wife also subscribed to said website and soon after she received a call from a recruitment company with the name of Canon or Cannon. They told her that they had work for her through Bank of America in a local branch where she would act as hostess for a loan renewal event. It all sounded fine and dandy, she gave them my email address so that I could be contacted via email as well seeing as we both needed some extra money.
That's when things started getting suspicious, they wanted way more information that anyone would normally be comfortable giving out: before any meeting or interview of any kind, a company on the other side of the continent and to top it all off: for a Part-time job.
Following my skeptic's nose I immediately started investigating and researching this company and the job they were reputedly claiming to offer. They told me that I would be working for Bank of America, and that they, Canon recruiting were one of Bank of America's vendors.
I called Bank of America's head office customer service and local branches in my area who would have been associated with such an event, they knew NOTHING about the event or Canon (or Cannon for that matter) recruiting. Calling the recruitment company again, they assured me that they were a vendor of Bank of America's and that they really need me to send them my info.
APPARENTLY, they needed my social security number via email and an application form and copies of my fingerprints for a background check, because I was going to work for Bank of America... And they needed it ASAP because the event would be the next week. All very short notice they said.
I did some research on the company and could find no condemning info on the net except a Rip-off report on this site.
BUT, the most interesting thing about it all was that I WAS able to find a loan renewal event! In my city and sponsored by some local housing authorities. I called them... Needless to say the lady in charge of the loan renewal event told me that they have NEVER heard of this recruiting company, that they use their OWN councilors and that there was no job posting or need for extra help.
I called Canon recruiting again with my findings and this time round claimed that they were associated with Adecco recruiting and that they were definitely a vendor of Bank of America. In my mind this did not matter because I checked Adecco's website, they do not list Canon recruiting as an affiliate. These bastards clearly just wanted my social and other info so they could steal my identity for their own use... what they would do with an unemployed person's identity I don't know. But whatever it is they will use it for means and purposes that won't help you in any way, that much is for certain.
So if a company calling themselves Canon or Cannon recruiting contacts you for a job, be it short notice or not, beware. Get as much info as you can and report them. They can't be anything more than a scam and one that wants to destroy people's lives by stealing their identities.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds
Canon Recruiting is a vendor of Bank of America
AUTHOR: FormerCanonRecruitingEmployeeatBankofAmerica - (USA)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, June 09, 2016
Hello. I am sorry that you lost your job. I hope you are employed now. I can honestly say that Canon Recruiting is an actual vendor of Bank of America. Bank of America uses a system called Ariba Discovery for all of their vendors, and Canon Recruiting is a vendor of Bank of America on this site. I say this for two reasons: # 1 was a contractor employee of Canon Recruiting to work for Bank of America (i worked at BAC for 7 months under Canon Recruiting's vendor contract), and # 2, I am familar with the SAP Ariba Discovery site that BAC uses for its vendors.
BAC (Bank of America) requires all the information that was asked of you because it is a Bank, one of the most regulated industries (at least right now) in the US. Canon Recruiting along with a million other contracting/recruting/vendor firms compete for the same positions to hire temps to work at Bank of America. The fact that Canon Recruiting was affiliated with another recruiting firm is very common practice amongst recruiting firms. They share on the contracts that are won with BAC. For example, if Recruiting Firm A did not have expertise in finding folks to work for Job A, but Company B did have expertise in finding someone to work Job A, company A would contract with Company B to fill the position. At the same time, Company A would split the proceeds from the contract with Company B after the position was filed.
BAC is a huge company. By calling the customer service center or visiting a local branch, it is the same as going into your local post office and asking the post office clerk if she or he knows what the EPA is going to do with climate control. At the same time, they both are part of the US government. The left hand will not know what the right hand is doing. In this case, there are several hands just like the government.
It does not surprise me one bit that you went to the event, and the organizer does not know who Canon Recruiting is. if a branch or department within Bank of America needs temporary staffing/employees (be it full time or part time), regardless of the size of the job, they have to submit the request to a centralized location within the bank that handles Temporary Staffing. Temporary Staffing is handled in the same way as paper clips are ordered at BAC. If you want to order temporary staffing, you put in a work order. The work order goes to the vendor management team, and the vendor management submits the job order to Ariba Discovery for all the approved vendors of Bank of America to bid on/submit candidates on.
The vendors that fill these type of gigs are all over the word, not just across the country. Canon Recruiting came to the rescue for me at a time when I was just laid off from my Full time job. So I will say that they are truly a real company that has a vendor relationship with Bank of America. They are not a scam. They are good people. Anyone reading this post can chose to listen to me or not.
Either way, I just wanted to get the truth out there.
Thanks,
Former Canon Recruiting/BAC Temp Employee

COMPLETE RETRACTION - CANON RECRUITING IS A RESPECTED NATIONWIDE STAFFING FIRM
AUTHOR: Skeptic38 - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Monday, August 06, 2012
First, I want to sincerely apologize to Mr. Tim Grayem, President of Canon Recruiting Group for suspecting his company of any wrong-doing whatsoever. As it turns out, they are a highly respected staffing firm with operations in 32 states with many awards and honors, including a cover story on Inc. Magazine's fastest growing list in 2010. I mistakenly reported them as attempting identity theft because when they hired my wife and me they wanted my Social Security number.
Had I thought about it, the Canon Recruiting Group was trying to put us on their payroll and of course they needed the Social. I understand now no one can be hired by any company without giving their Social.
I clearly was not thinking, and what I did was wrong, Because instead of investigating further I made inaccurate statements about this company, when they were just trying to hire me and were putting me and my wife on the payroll. They did offer plenty of informational proofs to their legitimate identity, byt my mind was made up.
I called a bank with 300,000 employees and inquired if they knew about a staffing firm based in California. Had I been thinking properly, I would have known that it would be near impossible to find the right person to verify with, and again I drew the wrong conclusion.
Obviously, the Canon Recruiting Group was upset and has demanded that I post this retraction, but I do so because it is the right thing to do. I am truly disappointed with myself for doing this to a firm whose sole purpose is to employ unemployed or under-employed people.
I make this retraction because I am trying to right a wrong, and hope that anyone who reads my earlier post will know that I was overreacting and was just plain wrong, and I do apologize to all involved.
Sincerely,
Hermanus Visser

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company
Canon Recruiting rebutts lies
AUTHOR: Tim - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, April 05, 2012

My name is Tim Grayem, Owner/ President of Canon Recruiting Group LLC. In 1980 I opened The Canon Recruiting Group, a Temporary and Contingent Staffing Firm. For over thirty years Canon has handled nationwide staffing for many Fortune 500 companies.
Canon also operates as a vendor to many larger staffing firms, Adecco, Volt, etc. - helping them staff many Fortune 50 clients. The thousands of people employed by Canon Recruiting can attest to the professionalism, honesty, and a reputation that is beyond reproach. My reputation is badly injured now with this posting by the ill-informed and mendacious Mr. Visser.
Canon has been recognized by INC magazine, the Los Angeles Business Journal, San Fernando Valley Business Journal, all of which is posted on-line our accolades and accomplishments are something I am extremely proud of and encourage anyone to look to our website (www.canonrecruiting.com) to view the many associations that have accredited Canon Recruiting.
Today, due to the ever increasing crime of identity theft. Our candidates must be vetted through the process of E-Verify, criminal background checks, and fingerprinting. As with any employer we Must have a social security number period.
When we saw this posting I politely contacted Mr. Visser personally to answer any questions he had regarding our company and offered to send him any and all information to confirm our standing. His refusal to listen to any truth; his dogged determination to cling to a wrong-doing that did not exist; and his continuing to malign the reputation of a company I have worked so hard to build, led me to seek the counsel of an attorney. It is because of the ridiculous nature of the statements made, the lack of any real investigation made to determine the veracity and ethics of my company
Regarding statements made by Mr. Visser to Rip-Off.com. His comments are flat out and out lies, and he is in fact, a Liar. It is my intent to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law.
Sadly, the people that are harmed the most are those people who read Mr. Vissers misled, uninformed rantings, and remain unemployed, ( MANY HAVE REFUSED ACTUAL EMPLOYMENT BECAUSE OF THIS FOOLISH PERSONS POSTING!) and of course we are financially damaged, because people now fear to follow the necessary business process to become
gainfully employed.
I encourage anyone with questions regarding Canon Recruiting Group LLC, please contact us or our attorney Garry Williams 818-715-9212
Sincerely,
Tim Grayem

Dear Mr. Visser:
Please be advised that this law office has been retained to
represent that interests of the Canon Recruiting Group, LLC, to address your
recent conduct with reference to that company. A review of information placed in my hands indicates that you have unilaterally posted false and defamatory information with respect to
Canon Recruiting.
Attached to this letter is a copy of some (by no means all) of the many accolades Canon Recruiting has received over the years - the company has been in business for 30 years and as you can see from the enclosed (which you are free to go behind as Im confident you will), the company is held in high regard.
The requirement for, among other information, your social Security Number was imposed by the prospective employer, Bank of America.
Mr. Tim Grayem, principal in the Canon Group, advises that he had a very unhappy experience in talking with you and offering to send you the enclosed proof documents or to do a simply Google search that would show thousands of positive stories and articles on the Canon Recruiting Groups 30 year history in staffing.
You now have the documents in hand which verify the bona fides of the Canon Recruiting Group and by this notice, you are to take down your erroneous posting, along with an apology, no later than the close of the business day on Friday, March 30, 2012.
Your failure to comply with this directive will leave the Canon Group with no other recourse but to institute appropriate litigation to clear its name and to seek appropriate monetary damages attendant thereto.
You have, in short, defamed a company and its principals. Such is known as libel per se and damages are presumed.
Your failure to heed this warning/request will serve only to underscore your mendacity and amplify the potential monetary recovery by the Canon Group.
If you promptly recant and post the appropriate apology, I will do my best to convince Mr. Grayem that pursuing you for your misguided commentary would not be worth the time and energy to do so.
Your failure to abide by this letter will leave the Canon Group with no recourse but to pursue its legal rights in the appropriate forum. In the interests of, at a minimum, dialogue, this letter, whether you intend to act upon it or not, should immediately be posted on your website so that anyone who gives credence to your posting(s) will be aware of
the fact that there is another side to this story.
If you wish to discuss this matter prior to taking any action, you are free to contact me at (818) 715-9212.
truly yours,
GARRY W. WILLIAMS
