Initial impression of Mike (Michael Corso) was good.  He appeared professional and sounded like one.  He and his company Cape Flooring and Windows were hired to do the hardwood flooring.  Took 65% upfront as deposit money for material and so on.  Scheduled day came and gone did not show up or the material was not delivered.  Upon contacting called back and rescheduled.  Rescheduled number of times over one month.  Finally showed to do the job.  Still did not bring the full material and half way through stated that the job would require more material than he originally thought and asked for more money 20% more to complete the job.  Which I gave in good faith.  The next day half way through his team packed gears and before leaving told that he still would need more materials and that he is out of stock.  He will complete the job next week when he gets his inventory.  Basically left the job half way without proper job site clean up or even disposing the debris properly.  I am still waiting for him to complete the job.

How can a professional contractor get this so wrong and has such poor project management?  When you hire a professional, you expect them to get the job done right the first time and honor their commitment.  My home looks like a demolition site, and after 2 days of work not a single room is completed.  I am disappointed and still waiting for him to honor his commitment to complete the job.

Finally work is completed

AUTHOR: South Brunswick Customer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 08, 2012

After 6 days the work was completed.  But there was still drama.  The installer showed up on time early in the morning (9:00 AM) as promised but Cape flooring did not.  Mike showed up at 11:00 with 8 boxes and no trims or transition.  He was supposed to show up with 10 boxes of hardwood, trims and transitions! Original estimate was for 30 boxes to cover 570 SQ feet with 5% waste.  On top of that I paid for extra 4 boxes and for additional labor as per his request, all together I was supposed to receive 34 boxes!  Only 28 boxes were delivered.

Anyway the installers were nice enough to get 2 additional boxes from 30 miles away later in the day.  I had to pick up trims and transition from home depot local to me.  Dan and Dale stayed till 10:30 PM to complete the job and clean up.  They did a good job.  Quality installation.  But I doubt I shall see the 4 additional boxes I paid for or get any refund.

Anyway I am happy that finally the job is done.  On the positive side, I would say Mike provided quality wood, the grade I wanted.  He was also responsive to my calls ... at least I could get hold of him.  Unfortunately, this project was done in a very poor manner with no planning or thoughts.  It was aggravating.  The point of hiring a contractor for a home owner is to avoid the hassle and getting quality work done the first time.  My experience was far from it.  Including material and labor the install was $6.60 per sq ft.  I hope Cape Flooring can learn from this and pick up the slack and provide better customer experience in future.   I feel that Mike is a good person who can benefit from good planning.
